The NCAA has handed down 1-year show-cause orders and suspensions to 5 former Iowa State football support staffers for making improper online bets on professional and college sporting events, including men’s and women’s basketball games involving the Cyclones.

The news was reported on Friday by the Associated Press. The 5 staffers were found to have made more than 6,200 bets totaling more than $100,000 from 2021-23. Jace Heacock, Chase Clark, Michael Dryer, Kyle Highland, and Mason Williams were identified during a state investigation into activities in campus athletic facilities, according to the AP. They face no criminal charges.

In a negotiated resolution, the 5 staffers acknowledged they knowingly violated the NCAA’s bylaws prohibiting sports gambling. If they are hired by another athletic department, they will be required to attend a rules seminar and serve a 2-week suspension. The show-cause period lasts until April 25, 2026.

Heacock is the son of ISU defensive coordinator Jon Heacock. He was found to have placed 787 bets totaling about $55,359.

Clark, currently an assistant equipment manager with the Detroit Lions, was found to have placed 2,305 bets totaling about $18,676.

Dryer was found to have placed 1,182 bets totaling about $11,536. He no longer works for a college football program.

Highland, an assistant director of football operations at Army, placed 509 bets totaling $6,365.

Williams, currently the equipment manager at Valparaiso, placed 1,455 bets totaling $11,679.
