4 Ultra-Luxe Resorts That Could Be the Next White Lotus ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

But as skeptics of the Scandinavia theory noted right away, Mike White—the show’s creator, writer and director—is famously averse to the cold. Plus, Norway lacks a Four Seasons, the resort brand that has always provided the series’ primary backdrop. They even made things official last October in a statement to the press: “Formalizing our partnership with HBO and Max marks an exciting milestone in our journey together, embracing a cultural phenomenon that blends exceptional storytelling with the universal love of travel,” said Marc Speichert, the Four Seasons’ executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

So another Four Seasons setting is all but guaranteed. And barring epic curveballs, it won’t be The Four Seasons Maui at Wailea (the Hawaiian idyll in Season 1), San Domenico Palace, Taormina (the Sicilian convent turned Four Seasons hotel where Season 2 took place) or the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui (the Thai beach retreat that’s all too fresh in everyone’s mind from season 3). Where does that leave us, then? Any Four Seasons on earth that comes with the customary jaw-dropping beauty and rich local culture for the overprivileged, undereducated White Lotus guests to bumble their way through.

With all of that in mind, we’re hereby joining the Season 4 guessing game. We’ve picked four standout Four Seasons hotels in sunny, culturally rich settings, each with another gorgeous stay nearby for secondary filming. Read on, then make some predictions of your own. And if you’re feeling flush, get in on the early-bird set-jetting, too.

Option One: Four Seasons Resort Marrakech

The Royal Villa at the Four Seasons Resort Marrakech comes with one of the prettiest pools on the property. Photo by Alan Keohane for Four Seasons Resorts.

Tucked between the nearly millennium-old medina and the largely 20th-century neighborhoods of the Ville Nouvelle, the Four Seasons Resort Marrakech sprawls across 40 acres of palm-flanked, fountain-filled gardens, where you could easily imagine White Lotus guests getting up to no good. And the accommodations—such as the 4,865-square-foot Royal Villa with a bougainvillea-adorned private pool—would definitely suit the Season 4 answer to the Ratliffs of Durham, whoever they may be.

Option Two: Four Seasons Hotel Sydney

The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney include the iconic Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House.

How else might a Sydney season look? For starters, if the newly flush Belinda and Zion reappear on the scene, you could imagine them checking into the two-bedroom Presidential Suite on the 34th floor, where they’d have 180-degree views of Sydney Harbor, the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the Sydney Opera House and the city skyline. They might also avail themselves of the hotel’s private jet excursion to the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park in the Outback—or a guided mother-son walk through the Blue Mountains, both sacred UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Backup Location: Capella Sydney

For the most serene of swimming sessions, hit the pool at the Capella Sydney.

Housed in an early 20th-century sandstone building that was once the Department of Education, this architectural gem is a new favorite on the luxury lodging scene. You could easily picture a White Lotus general manager making the rounds at the lushly leafy Aperture restaurant—and if those exchanges were as awkward as usual, you could then picture the guests requiring extra decompression time at the supremely serene spa and pools.

Option Three: Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor

The mountains meet the Mediterranean at the Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor.

In fact, the property is remote enough that the inaugural guests had to travel here by boat in 1929—a legacy that would lead nicely to a Season 4 water arrival sequence. Reborn as a Four Seasons last summer, the venerable Formentor Resort was founded by an Argentine arts patron on land that had been owned (and famously extoled in verse) by a Mallorcan poet. So the place is nothing if not romantic. You could easily picture the next Rick and Chelsea retreating to the Royal Suite or its dedicated poolside cabana. Indeed, the resort’s offerings include “a Poolside Escape inspired by the HBO Original Series ‘The White Lotus,’ where guests can enjoy the finest cocktails and cuisine inspired by Maui, Taormina, and Koh Samui.” (We should note that several Four Seasons around the world now offer White Lotus experiences.)

Backup Location: La Residencia, a Belmond Hotel

La Residencia, a Belmond Hotel blends beautifully into the surrounding village.

Tucked into the mountainside village of Deià, La Residencia is another local icon that has long celebrated the arts, most notably, the legacy of Joan Miró. The Surrealist had deep family ties to Mallorca and took lifelong inspiration from its landscapes—as you may or may not be able to make out from his 33 lithographs at Restaurante Miró. While you can imagine Mike White having fun with all that surrealism on set, another of the hotel’s restaurants may be even more cinematic: El Olivo, built out of an ancient olive mill. In fact, some of the property’s olive trees are said to predate even the 16th- and 17th-century manor houses that now serve as lavish guest quarters. One more thing you can imagine Mike White having fun with, given the monkeys, snakes and lizards of Season 3: La Residencia’s fleet of donkeys, dispatched for hilltop picnics and strolls through the olive groves.

Option Four: Four Seasons Resort Seychelles

Treatments at the Four Seasons Resort Seychelles make you feel like you're in a treehouse.

This one is tucked into the rain-forested cliffs that overlook Petite Anse bay on the island of Mahé, where the treehouse-like villas come with infinity pools, outdoor rain showers and sunsets that would make even the most jaded “White Lotus” guest swoon. For all the seeming seclusion, the resort isn’t far from the capital city of Victoria, where the islands’ fascinating blend of cultural influences—European, African, Asian and Arabic—provides ample opportunity for those same guests to mortify audiences and locals alike.
