This offseason has been a good one for South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
As we have moved further and further away from the 2024 season, the affection shown to Sellers has only grown. He closed out his first year as a starter with a strong second half. And many have labeled him one of the best returning quarterbacks in college football. With the 2025 NFL Draft now over with and mock drafts turning the attention to the 2026 class, Sellers is popping up as a late first-round pick (26th via PFF) and as high as No. 2.
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler has Sellers mocked to the New York Jets with the No. 2 overall pick. Here’s what he wrote on the South Carolina star:
With his dual-threat skills, Sellers was one of the most entertaining college quarterbacks to watch last season. It is probably too early to be talking about him this early in the draft, but that will change if he takes another step in his development as a passer.
Brugler isn’t the only one who sees the potential.
ESPN’s Jordan Reid projected the Jets to take Sellers with their top pick as well, though at No. 4 instead of No. 2. USA Today projected Sellers to go second overall to the Cleveland Browns. NBC Sports projected Sellers to go seventh overall.
The NFL Mock Draft Database has Sellers at No. 7 on the consensus big board.
Sellers’ combination of size, mobility, and contact balance made him a nightmare to bring down last season. As a first-year starter, he threw for 2,534 yards, ran for 674 yards, and scored 25 touchdowns while completing 65.6% of his passes.
The upside is there, and South Carolina has solid odds to make the Playoff, which means the Gamcocks’ quarterback will be in the spotlight plenty throughout the upcoming season.
He made a big jump from Year 1 to Year 2, and he showed considerable improvement even during Year 2. If he takes another step, as Brugler notes, Sellers becomes a real wild card in the 2026 NFL Draft. At DraftKings, he has the fourth-best odds of any player to be the No. 1 pick.
