A federal jury Wednesday found an Anaheim man guilty of befriending a 13-year-old girl, giving her alcohol and sexually assaulting her while recording the attack.
Jonathan Gonzalez-Reyes, 38, was found guilty of one count of producing child pornography, two counts of distributing child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Before the assault, Gonzalez-Reyes and his co-defendant, Nanci Jasmin Castillo, befriended the girl and, while they were at Castillo’s home in February 2021, Castillo reportedly gave her an alcoholic beverage after she already had a Xanax, prosecutors said in a statement.
Prosecutors accused Gonzalez-Reyes and Castillo of sexually assaulting the teen while she was going in and out consciousness. The pair photographed and recorded the assault, prosecutors said.
Law enforcement conducted a search and found child sex abuse materials showing the victim and the defendants on Gonzalez-Reyes’ phone and Castillo’s iCloud account and found evidence that Gonzalez-Reyes sent the images and videos to Castillo, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors also alleged that Gonzalez-Reyes used a cellphone to store and distribute images of the same victim in September 2021.
Castillo, who has been in federal custody since June 2024, pleaded guilty in February to one count of production of child pornography.
The defendants’ sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 28. They face a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison and a maximum sentence of 30 years.
