"We are at a time when the transgender community is under siege," Obama said on Wednesday, April 30, during the kickoff event of Knowles' book tour for her memoir, Matriarch, at which Parade was present. "Where we are not finding compassion and love. And there are families, because of religion, that are struggling to accept people in their own families."
"I would say, 'Do you love them? Do you care about them? Is the judgment more important than the love and the relationship?'" Knowles said. "I think if you really and truly believe in God, then you believe in accepting all of his children."
"At a time when people don't have healthcare and it's expensive, this is why it matters who's in the White House," she said.
"You want to retain that, write that down, especially in a time when they are trying to erase our history," Obama added.
“That's the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with disappointing people," Obama previously said on the “Work in Progress with Sophia Bush” podcast, reflecting on her decision to skip those major events. "I mean, so much so that this year people were...they couldn't even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing."
Obama revealed Wednesday night that the live conversation between her and Knowles would soon be released as an episode of "IMO."
Michelle and Barack still reside in Washington, D.C., making for an easy trip to Knowles' tour at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md., just outside of the nation's capital. Their daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23, live together in Los Angeles.
