Peaky Blinders movie: Release date speculation, cast, latest news ...Middle East

News by : (Radio Times) -
Peaky Blinders season 6 may have come to a dramatic end back in 2022, but fortunately for fans, Irish actor Cillian Murphy is reprising his role as Tommy Shelby in a forthcoming Peaky Blinders movie. Although the historical crime show, which began airing on the BBC back in 2013, was due to end after its sixth season, showrunner Steven Knight announced in June 2024 that the series would continue in the form of a film. Filming then kicked off in September on the film - which is officially titled The Immortal Man - with Netflix unveiling a first look (below) at Cillian Murphy back in action as Tommy Shelby, as well as an image of the actor alongside Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight on the set of the film (above). There's an impressive line of actors joining the Birmingham gangster saga for its maiden cinematic outing, including Pulp Fiction star Tim Roth, Saltburn star Barry Keoghan and Mission: Impossible favourite Rebecca Ferguson, who are all set to appear in as-yet unspecified roles, while a handful of cast members from the original series will also be returning. In an interview with The Mirror, Knight previously revealed: "The biggest difference between a film and TV series is the budget. When you do stuff for TV, you often have to ask people to imagine it. But with a film, you can really do it. You can blow stuff up. "Will Tommy be giving James Bond a run for his money? Maybe. There are parallels. We always thought of Peaky as very cinematic, so we are finally finding a screen big enough for what we want to do." With recent The Peaky Blinders movie will stream on Netflix – sign up from £5.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream. So, when can we expect The Immortal Man to land and who else will star? Read on for everything you need to know. The Immortal Man release date speculation: When could the Peaky Blinders movie come out? Unfortunately, there's still no word on the confirmed release date for the Peaky Blinders film. Deadline reports that production is set to kick off later this year, meaning it's unlikely that the movie will be released before late 2025 or early 2026. Netflix confirmed it had greenlit the movie on Twitter, which was recently re-branded as X, alongside a photo of a bulky script. "Thomas Shelby returns," the post read. "A Peaky Blinders Film starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix." Speaking when the film was confirmed, Murphy said it was "very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and [director] Tom Harper", and described it as "one for the fans". Knight added: "I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war." The title of the film was confirmed in an Instagram post back in December 2024 by hair and makeup artist Nadia Stacy, with Stacy revealing it is called The Immortal Man. Who will be in the Peaky Blinders movie cast? The big question had been whether Tommy Shelby would survive the end of the series – but now we know the leading actor will be reprising his iconic role. Speaking to Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore on Today FM in October 2022, Murphy said: "I’ve still not read it but that’s the plan, the plan is to make a film and to continue the story but in the cinematic world rather than on the television. "The television part of the story is finished. If there’s more stories to tell, I’m there, I just haven’t read it yet – but it’s close apparently." Steven Knight had already confirmed that Cillian Murphy would reprise the role in some capacity in the film and when asked whether Tommy and his brother Arthur would still feature in the Peaky Blinders world after season 6, Knight told Digital Spy: "It's impossible to say yet. But the film – yes. And fans will be pleased to hear that Murphy isn't the only familiar face returning. Netflix has confirmed that Stephen Graham will be back as Hayden Stagg, Sophie Rundle will return as Tommy's sister Ada, and Ned Dennehy’s Charlie Strong will also appear. Meanwhile, newcomers to the cast include Dune and Mission: Impossible franchise star Rebecca Ferguson has been cast in a leading role in the upcoming film, and Saltburn and Banshees of Inisherin star Barry Keoghan, who is also set to star. In September, Tim Roth became the latest big name to be added to the film, followed by Jay Lycurgo in October. The confirmed cast members so far are as follows: Cillian Murphy as Thomas "Tommy" Shelby OBE Rebecca Ferguson as TBC Barry Keoghan as TBC Tim Roth as TBC Jay Lycurgo as TBC Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne (née Shelby) Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong Ian Peck as Curly Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs Meanwhile, season 6 newcomer Conrad Khan previously said he's keen to reprise his role as Erasmus "Duke" Shelby. On a potential return, Khan said to RadioTimes.com: "I hope so. I hope so. [Steven Knight] hasn't spoken to me about it. I don't think he even knows in his mind what he wants to take it next. But yeah, who knows?" Other characters who could return from the movie include: Natasha O’Keeffe as Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Shelby (née Stark) Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Esme Shelby-Lee Harry Kirton as Finn Shelby Daryl McCormack as Isiah Jesus Neil Maskell as Winston Churchill Pauline Turner as Frances Amber Anderson as Diana, Lady Mosley (née Mitford) James Frecheville as Jack Nelson Conrad Khan as Erasmus 'Duke' Shelby Billy Jenkins as Charles Shelby Callum Booth-Ford as Karl Thorne Aneurin Barnard as Dr Holford Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg Anya Taylor-Joy as Gina Gray Sam Claflin as Sir Oswald Mosley Tom Hardy as Alfred 'Alfie' Solomons Characters who cannot return (unless as a ghost or in flashback) include Michael Gray (Finn Cole), Billy Grade (Emmett J. Scanlan) and Captain Swing/Laura McKee (Charlene McKenna), after all being killed off in the series finale, while Kate Philips, who played Linda Shelby, recently told RadioTimes.com that she is not involved in the film. What will happen in the Peaky Blinders movie? It's safe to say that plot details for the film have been kept a closely guarded secret for now but we do have a few hints about what to expect. Specifically, Knight has revealed that the film will be set during the Second World War, claiming he always wanted the saga to end with the conflict. Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com, Knight said: "I know what's going to happen in those stories and it's about a sort of untold story that happened in the Second World War, which Peakys are going to be involved in." He also revealed that Polly Gray, who was played by the late Helen McCrory will, "remain a fundamental part of the movie". In another exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com, Knight also said that the Peaky Blinders movie will be "the same but different", adding that viewers should "expect the unexpected". What that could be exactly, we're not sure - but it sounds exciting nonetheless. Given that Tommy is alive at the end of Peaky Blinders and is not, in fact, terminally ill as he had been lead to believe, the stage is set for an almighty comeback. There are multiple adversaries to deal with in the coming film, not least the newly married Sir Oswald Mosley and Lady Diana Mosley - who appear to have been behind the fake diagnosis delivered by Dr Holford. Tommy fighting the British Union of Fascists and Nazis? Yes, please! Jack Nelson (James Frecheville) and Gina Gray (Anya Taylor-Joy) are also still alive, so maybe they will want revenge on Tommy for what happened to Michael and their plan. Meanwhile, there are multiple members of the Shelby family still living and who could return. We shall just have to wait and see who! A potential rivalry has already been set up between Tommy's illegitimate son Erasmus "Duke" Shelby and his now exiled uncle Finn Shelby, so we imagine that could feature. Of course, we also now know that Knight doesn't envisage the film as the last outing for Peaky Blinders, so we'll also have to keep an eye out for any other Peaky-related announcements.
