Twice in the same day, Georgia basketball got a boost to its backcourt, and once again the help came from an unexpected program.
Marcus “Smurf” Millender committed to Georgia, the 5-11 sophomore guard told On3 on Monday afternoon. Millender comes to Athens from UTSA, where he averaged 14.9 points per game this past season while shooting almost 44% from 3-point territory.
Now, he’ll be bringing that long-distance shooting prowess to the Bulldogs, who are coming off a solid season under Mike White in which they went 20-13 and made the NCAA Tournament. Georgia lost in the first round to Gonzaga but was 1 of the record 14 teams from the SEC to make the NCAA Tournament this season. Millender’s commitment made it 2 guards in 1 day via the transfer portal for Georgia, after the Bulldogs landed former 4-star recruit Jordan Ross from Saint Mary’s earlier Monday afternoon.

— Joe Tipton (@TiptonEdits) April 28, 2025He might be called “Smurf” because of his diminutive height, but Millender is a big-time get for Georgia. He was a 2-year starter for the Roadrunners and shot over 43% from 3-point territory in both seasons at UTSA.
Millender averaged 1.7 steals, 3.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game last season, and he only turned the ball over 1.6 times per contest. Millender also shot nearly 88% from the free throw line.
His signing is already Georgia’s 5th addition via the portal and the 4th addition to its backcourt. The other portal additions are Ross, Cal guard Jeremiah Wilkinson, Wofford guard Justin Bailey and BYU forward Kanon Catchings.
