MMIP San Diego will host its first annual summit on May 3 at Viejas Casino & Resort in Alpine to promote awareness, empowerment, and action surrounding the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People.

Organized by the Jamul Indian Village of California, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, Manzanita Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians, and the San Diego Harbor Police Foundation, the summit aims to honor the lives of MMIP victims and foster lasting change through education, training, and collaboration across San Diego County law enforcement agencies.

Throughout the summit, participants will take part in discussions designed to strengthen partnerships, share vital knowledge, and spotlight critical issues. Panels will feature human trafficking awareness training using state-of-the-art educational tools and programs, a law enforcement collaboration panel, as well as sessions focused on health, healing, and survivor experiences. Attendees will also be introduced to a new Digital Resource Center created to help address the MMIP crisis.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Oak Ballroom at Viejas Casino & Resort, located at 5000 Willows Road in Alpine.

MMIP San Diego is a coalition formed by four Kumeyaay tribes — the Jamul Indian Village of California, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, Manzanita Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, and San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians — in partnership with the San Diego Harbor Police Foundation.
