Affidavit: Greeley police say they found meth, fentanyl during traffic stop ...Saudi Arabia

A Greeley-area man faces a pair of felony charges after police pulled him over with what they say were methamphetamine and fentanyl pills earlier this month.

Greeley police — while carrying out a multi-jurisdiction operation — arrested 45-year-old Christopher Lujan on April 14 in Evans after following him from a Greeley address known for criminal activity, according to an affidavit for his arrest.

Lujan faces two charges of drug possession with intent to distribute — one each for the meth and fentanyl — as well as a petty offense for drug paraphernalia, according to Colorado court records.

Around 2:40 p.m. April 14, Greeley police officers were participating in a multi-jurisdiction effort to combat vehicle thefts when they noticed a black Jeep Patriot leaving a residence near Fourth Street and 11th Avenue. Police say the residence was known to be associated with stolen property and narcotics, among other criminal activity.

Officers followed the Jeep south on 11th Avenue until 32nd Street in Evans, when police say the driver “suddenly signaled an immediate turn at the intersection, failing to meet the required distance.”

Officers pulled the Jeep over in the 1600 block of 32nd Street. They say the front-seat passenger — identified as Lujan — was wearing his seatbelt improperly. The Tribune is not naming the driver, as he was found in possession of no drugs and received only a citation from the stop.

As a K-9 unit approached the vehicle, Lujan told officers he had drugs on him, according to the affidavit. Police say the K-9 also alerted to drugs in the vehicle.

In a small satchel strapped to Lujan’s chest, police say, they found three small bags containing suspected meth; four small bags with “rainbow colored” pills suspected to contain fentanyl; as well as 25 small, unused bags consistent with drug distribution.

Police say the rainbow colored pills are a new form of counterfeit pills containing fentanyl, opposed to the blue pills typically found in Greeley.

In total, the meth weighed 45.6 grams and the fentanyl — which totaled 70 pills — weighed 9.5 grams, according to the affidavit. Police say officers “conducted preliminary chemical and electronic testing on scene to confirm the narcotics.”

In a bag at Lujan’s feet, police also found a homemade glass bong with drug residue, according to the affidavit.

Lujan later told police that he used approximately 10 fentanyl pills a day to sustain his habit. Officers say Lujan told them he got the meth and fentanyl pills from a person known as “Po.” Lujan said he would sell the meth and bring the money back to “Po,” who would pay Lujan with the fentanyl pills.

Police say they were aware of “Po” through previous information they had obtained, but they did not identify who he was in the affidavit.

Lujan has a lengthy felony history in Weld County, dating back more than two decades, according to Colorado court records.

He was most recently convicted of identity theft and forgery when police found him hiding in a garage downtown after a foot-chase when he was caught using a stolen check and fake ID at a Greeley business.

He pleaded guilty to felony escape in both 2003 and 2008, felony drug possession in 2000 and 2007 and trespassing in a vehicle with the intent to commit a crime in 2001 and 2002, according to Colorado court records.

Police booked Lujan into the Weld County Jail. He was released the following day on a personal recognizance bond, for which Lujan didn’t pay any money, with his signature instead serving as a promise to appear at all future court dates. If he fails to appear in court, or violates any terms of his release, he will owe the $7,500.
