Hardik Pandya inched closer to a Mumbai Indians record after the five-time champions clinched a comfortable 54-run win against the Lucknow Super Giants. Batting first, Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton smashed half-centuries, while Jasprit Bumrah, Will Jacks and Trent Boult delivered with the ball. It also marked the 16th instance of MI defending a 200+ total, without a single defeat. Mumbai also became the first team to win 150 matches in IPL history.

Mumbai Indians have five wins on the bounce with a win over the LSG on Sunday. Put into bat, Mayank Yadav ended Rohit Sharma’s stay early. Ryan Rickelton powered the hosts through the powerplay, with Will Jacks playing a vital support hand. Prince Yadav cleaned up Jacks with a peach as Rickelton went through to his second fifty of IPL 2025. Suryakumar joined forces and continued his stellar form. The MI stalwart went past Sai Sudharsan to take the Orange Cap, his 10th consecutive innings of scoring 25 or more.

LSG responded well, with Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya failing to get a move on. Naman Dhir and Corbin Bosch, making his debut, added the finishing touches as MI piled on 215/7 in their 20 overs.

LSG’s chase got off to the worst possible start with Jasprit Bumrah getting the better of Aiden Markram. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran both got starts but failed to put on a big score. Rishabh Pant’s torrid IPL 2025 continued as he was dismissed off Will Jacks.

David Miller and Ayush Badoni scripted a semblance of a fight back only for the Mumbai Indians to nip it in the bud. Badoni sliced Trent Boult to deep backward point. Bumrah followed it up with a triple-wicket over, sending David Miller and Abdul Samad both to the pavilion.

Ravi Bishnoi hit a couple of sixes but Trent Boult finished the job, with LSG bowled out for just 161 in their 20 overs.

With 5 straight wins, Mumbai Indians climbed to second in the IPL 2025 points table. They are now level with RCB and Delhi Capitals on 12 points, while leapfrogging Punjab Kings’ 11. Mumbai Indians’ best winning streak in the IPL is 6 games, and Hardik would hope to equal that record.

MI won 6 games on the bounce in 2008 and 2017, under Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma, respectively. Rohit, in fact led MI to five wins on the bounce in 2013, 2015 and 2020. Each of Rohit’s winnings streaks were followed by title wins, underscoring MI’s dynasty. Sachin also led MI to 5 wins on the bounce in 2010, losing to CSK in the final.
