CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A crime-fighting viral TikTok, with a post from Charlotte that was liked more than 60,000 times, may have been the key to finding a man accused of exposing himself to a woman on the Rail Trail in South End.
Nicole Smith was devastated when she learned what happened to her friend on the Rail Trail.
“She was obviously in shock, and she was trying to get to a safe place, she sounded out of breath,” said Smith in an interview with Queen City News.

“There is a sexual predator on the loose, the police have his information but they’re not doing anything about it,” said Smith on a TikTok video that went viral.
Smith not only got on TikTok to tell her friend’s story in a post that went viral with more than 17,000 shares.
“The fact that we cannot just run the plate and do something about this makes me so mad,” said Smith on TikTok.
Smith and her friend filed a police report on April 9.

“I got a lot of comments from women saying that the same thing had happened to them or was happening to them on a consistent basis,” said Smith.
Just this week police announced they arrested 47-year-old Santiago Garcia Herrera and charged him with indecent exposure.
It took two weeks between when Smith and her friend filed a police report and an arrest was made. She says no doubt the viral TikTok is what made the difference.
“While I’m thankful that we found this one, there is a problem that persists, and it shouldn’t be on us to have to make a viral TikTok to get these men off the streets,” said Smith.
