NFL Draft 2025: Former Alabama QB Jalen Milroe selected in Round 3 ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

After picking apart the Georgia defense, some draft experts were talking about Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe as a first-round pick. But Milroe’s final season at Alabama didn’t end the way anyone in Tuscaloosa would have hoped and Milroe’s stock took a hit as a result.

Not too big of a hit, though.

On Friday night, with the 28th pick of the third round (92nd overall), the Seattle Seahawks selected Milroe.

He’s the fourth Alabama quarterback to be drafted into the NFL in the last 5 years. He’s also the third member of the Crimson Tide to go in the opening 3 rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The last time the Seahawks took a quarterback in the third round of an NFL Draft was in 2012. That player was Russell Wilson. Though their skillsets are much different, Wilson also entered into the NFL with plenty of questions about his ability to produce at the highest level and that pick worked out pretty well for Seattle.

If Milroe gets anywhere close to the career Wilson had in Seattle, the predraft discourse will be but a footnote. But Milroe has plenty of work to do to get there. Milroe’s final season in Alabama featured some remarkable highs, like the Georgia game, and some unbelievable lows. He ran for 20 touchdowns, but he was picked off 11 times and had just 5 touchdown passes in SEC play.

The 6-foot-2, 216-pound Milroe was a 4-star recruit who signed with Alabama in the 2021 class. He appeared in just 12 games across his first 2 seasons with the program while serving in a reserve role. In 2023, he stepped into the starting spot and led the Crimson Tide to an SEC Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff.

He threw for 2,834 yards, ran for 531 yards, and scored 35 touchdowns against just 6 interceptions.

In 2024, Milroe had to adapt to new head coach Kalen DeBoer and the results were mixed. Milroe ran for a career-best 726 yards as DeBoer fully unleashed his dual-threat ability. But the down-to-down consistency as a passer wasn’t there. Milroe completed 64.3% of his passes for 2,844 yards and 16 touchdowns with 11 picks.

In Seattle, Milroe should get plenty of time to develop as a passer. The Seahawks don’t need him to come in and fill a role right away. The organization signed Sam Darnold to a 3-year deal this offseason, and it signed Drew Lock to back Darnold up.
