The best SEC prospects available for Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but there are plenty of elite SEC football prospects still on the board at the 2025 NFL Draft. Stunning, I know.

Landon Dickerson, Brian Branch, James Cook, D’Andre Swift, Xavier McKinney, Trevon Diggs, Justin Madubuike and Jonathan Greenard were all SEC players who were drafted on Day 2 in the 2020s who made it to the Pro Bowl already. Of course, that’s not including Jalen Hurts, who gets credit for being a former SEC player, though he obviously didn’t enter the NFL Draft directly from the SEC.

The point is, yes, there are plenty of elite SEC prospects who could come off the board early on Day 2 after not hearing their names called in Round 1.

These are my best available from the SEC:

Luther Burden III, Mizzou WR

There were pre-draft rumblings that Burden could be a candidate to fall outside of Round 1, and despite Eli Drinkwitz‘s best efforts to praise his 3-year starter, there was some truth to that. Believe what you want with that. What’s hard to debate is whether the exclusivity of Burden’s usage as a slot receiver impacted his perceived upside. Whatever the case, someone should be getting an extremely motivated pass-catcher.

Nick Emmanwori, South Carolina S

We can talk about the positional value and how difficult it’s become for a safety to get picked in Round 1, but Emmanwori looked like someone who would overcome that after a historically dominant NFL Combine performance. The 3-year starter doesn’t lack physical tools or experience. Perhaps there were more questions about his instincts in the ground game, but there should be plenty of other areas where he can step in and help a defense.

Landon Jackson, Arkansas Edge

For many, Jackson moved himself into the Round-1 conversation after his NFL Combine performance. For the rest of us who watched him become the best player on Arkansas’s roster the last 2 seasons, that was established much earlier. Jackson might not have that ridiculous potential as an edge-rusher in the way that a guy like James Pearce Jr. does, but his value as a run-stuffer with potential to grow as a pass-rusher will make him a longtime NFL starter.

Tre Harris, Ole Miss WR

I know that this receiver class took a lot of heat in the pre-draft process, but Harris not ever being considered a Round 1 guy is hard to fathom. He was dominant when healthy — I would’ve had him as a Biletnikoff Award finalist even though he missed a month to injury — and while there might be some questions about the route tree, his ability to get separation in the SEC immediately after transferring from Louisiana Tech was a sight to behold. Harris has Pro Bowl potential, no matter where he ends up.

Mason Taylor, LSU TE

Taylor wasn’t in the same conversations as Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland, and understandably so. He’s not the complete, blocking tight end that those guys are. Taylor will still have an early-Round 2 market after a 3-year career at LSU wherein he became the program’s best tight end ever. A standout pass-catching tight end should have a tremendously high floor.

Nic Scourton, Texas A&M DL

I’ll be honest. I loved Scourton coming into the 2024 season, and I thought he and Shemar Stewart had too many invisible games down the stretch for A&M. Stewart had the measurables that masked his lack of production, but Scourton didn’t. But Scourton, who was down 23 pounds from where he played this year, could absolutely turn into a star edge-rusher in the right scheme. A late-Round 2 selection could still provide a massive return.

And let’s talk about Jalen Milroe …

The first-round talk was the byproduct of a draft that didn’t have a defined QB2. Period. This will be better for Milroe long-term because now, he won’t face the pressure of being a starter in Year 1. He’s not ready for that. There were too many dud, self-induced performances that he delivered in the latter half of his pre-draft season. There’s still a path for Milroe to become a franchise quarterback, but perhaps as much as any player in this draft, it’ll be about finding the right fit. That can still be on the table on Day 2.
