Berhampur: The doctors at MKCG Medical College & Hospital, Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district successfully extracted an 8cm-long knife piece from the lung of a man through thoracotomy operation.
The broken knife piece was stuck in the lung of 24-year-old Santosh Das for three years after a stabbing incident in Bengaluru.
The sharp steel piece caused persistent cough and fever and initially he was misdiagnosed as tuberculosis. Later nn X-ray and CT scan confirmed the object in the lung.
A team of eight doctors led by Sarada Prasanna Sahoo, associate professor of the cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) department of MKCG removed it without complications.
Miraculously, the knife piece did not damage any of the vital organs of Das during its movement. Das is currently recovering in the ICU, as per the reports.
