Cole is the son of Florida wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales. He played for Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, Florida, about 40 miles south of UF campus in Gainesville.

The younger Gonzales spent the past 3 seasons at FCS Western Carolina. He committed to transfer to Oklahoma on Christmas Day. As for 2025 and beyond, he has 1 full season of eligibility remaining and 1 redshirt available.

Per his Western Carolina bio, Gonzales has played in 27 games over 3 seasons. He was recognized as SoCon Player of the Year in 2023, completing 66% of his passes for 2,803 yards with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 28-8 over 11 games.

Gonzales played in just 8 games during the 2024 season. While his TD-INT ratio was 12-7, his average passing yards per game increased from 254.8 to 317.9.

We’ll see what’s next for Gonzales, who appears to be moving on after a pit stop in Norman. The spring window for undergraduate entry into the transfer portal closes on April 25. Players can transfer afterward as long as they have entered their name into the portal.
