Alijah Arenas was involved in a serious car accident on Thursday morning and has been placed into a medically-induced coma, according to a report.

ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported that news on Thursday afternoon. Arenas is one of the top high school basketball prospects in the country and is committed to USC. He’s also the son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas.

Five-star prospect and USC commit Alijah Arenas was involved in a serious car crash early Thursday morning, hospitalized and placed into an induced coma, sources tell ESPN. Arenas, 18, is the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas.

According to TMZ, first responders were called to the scene at 4:55 a.m. after Arenas’ Tesla Cybertruck crashed. TMZ reports images it viewed showed the Cybertruck was “completely mangled.” Other details regarding the crash and Arenas’ condition are not yet known.

Arenas is the No. 7 prospect in the country for the class of 2025, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s been committed to USC since the end of January and was set to join the Trojans for the 2025-26 season.

His father, Gilbert, was a 3-time All-Star and had an 11-year NBA career mostly with the Washington Wizards. He also won the NBA’s Most Improved Player award back in 2003. He had arguably his best season in 2006 when he averaged over 29 points per game and took a LeBron James-led Cavaliers team to 6 games in the first round of the Eastern conference playoffs.
