COSTCO is set to open its most controversial store this week, with a major US expansion plan also set.
Consumers are not too happy about the imminent opening, however, with local residents claiming it would do untold damage to the area.

Instead of being pleased that Costco is coming, as the company might have hoped, shoppers actually think it’s going to do more harm than good.
The company is opening a massive 16,000-square-foot store in Stuart, Florida.
The new spot will rotate more than 4,000 products for Costco card-holding customers.
The store will also bring a gas station with 18 pumps, per the Daily Mail.
And on the surface, all seems well leading up to the launch.
Costco reported a spike in interest with 5,000 nearby residents signing up for memberships.
Some residents of Stuart are already prepared for the hunt, too.
One person playfully commented on Reddit: “New openings always have exotic items by the way.
“Enjoy your hunt.”
The new store opens on Friday at 8am.
YEARS IN THE MAKING
But a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes to get this new Costco off the ground, even more than you may think.
This location is the product of years of negations with neighborhood residents who have expressed their concerns.
They believe that the new store will bring increased traffic and environmental damage.
Costco originally proposed building the store and more than 300 apartments in the lot close to the city’s high school.
But this was met with immediate pushback, with one person even filing a legal complaint against the company.
Costco Return Policy

“We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell, and will refund your purchase price,” the return policy states.
There are a few exceptions to this 100% satisfaction guarantee which are:
Electronics – Returns will be accepted within 90 days of the date the member received the product. Diamonds – 1.00ct or larger must be returned with all original paperwork within 48 hours and they will be inspected for authenticity. Cigarettes and alcohol – These items cannot be returned by law. Items with a limited useful life expectancy such as batteries and tires cannot be returned. Special Order Kiosk and Custom Installed Programs can only be returned or refunded if under warranty repair/replacement. Gold bullion, bars, and silver coins are non-refundable. Shop Cards are non-refundable. Airline and Live Performance Event items are non-refundable.Costco memberships can be canceled and refunded at any time if a customer is dissatisfied.
They alleged that the city hadn’t completed its due diligence in surveying the traffic and natural wetland impact.
A judge initially agreed with the complaint and halted the construction, but a state panel reversed this decision.
Costco sought to appease residents by renaming a nearby access road, providing the city with updated landscaping plans, and adding fountains to nearby pond projects.
It still seems that residents are nervous.
One person said on social media: “I’m not going anywhere near there until June.
“The traffic is going to be gnarly.”
The US Sun has reached out to Costco for a comment on the new store and the concerns of the locals.
EXPANSION PLANS
A few new Costco stores have popped up in the US this year, and reached 900 in its total worldwide portfolio.
Costco also has over 600 spots in the US now.
Costco reported an 8.2% spike in sales in the year’s first quarter, including a 6.6% increase in US sales.
But Costco is also having to make changes to meet evolving consumer needs.
Costco recently announced that it would expand access to its gas stations.
This saw the company keeping thousands of pumps operating after their corresponding warehouses close for the night.
