Conor Benn has rule change request granted for Chris Eubank Jr fight: ‘All I asked for’ ...Middle East

Conor Benn has had his request for an 18ft ring for his fight with Chris Eubank Jr approved.

Eubank Jr and Benn will meet in a huge grudge showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.

It has been a rocky ride to get the fight over the line given their family history, and separate demands.

The pair have now agreed to meet at the middleweight limit of 160lbs, with Benn set to put on 13lbs to come up and meet Eubank Jr.

Eubank Jr himself also made huge financial demands to Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh, and is set to pocket £10 million for the fight.

But his rival has revealed that his main demand was simply reducing the size of the standard 20ft ring.

He told Sky Sports: “The only thing I asked for in my contract was an 18-foot ring.

“Coming in there to steamroll him? Of course I am. You think I’m coming in there to muck about?

“If you think you’re faster than me, prove it. You think you’re stronger than me, prove it.

“You think you’re smarter than me, prove it. Come and meet me in the middle.”

Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn then added context behind the decision.

He said: “It’ll be a nice small ring to have a tear-up in.

Benn made the request so he can try to pin down Eubank JrMark Robinson / Matchroom Boxing

“It might suit Eubank. He may decide to stand and have a shootout.

“Conor can box, by the way, he’s got great legs and his movement’s very good. It’s not like he just comes forward.

“There are very few fighters that are as sharp as Conor Benn early in a fight like that.

“Conor tries to end the fight in the first round, that’s why he’s so exciting.

“Eubank is not one of those fighters that starts fast out of the gate. Look at the Liam Smith fight, it’s a cracking example.

“If he decides to stand and trade, it’s all over in three rounds, one way or the other. It will be the British Hagler-Hearns. That’s what it’ll be.”

Eubank Jr is the marginal favourite to beat BennMark Robinson/Matchroom

Benn holds a size disadvantage to Eubank Jr and will need to close the gap early and find the target.

‘The Destroyer’ is supremely confident of doing so and getting the KO that has been promised for so many years.

Tensions couldn’t be higher between the pair, who have been on a collision course since their cancelled fight in 2022.

A win for either fighter could still see them meet again, with a two-way contracted rematch clause also in place.

Legacy and the possibility of a world title shot in separate weight classes lays on the line for both fighters.

Eubank Jr could even earn a shot at Canelo Alvarez in 2026 if he tastes victory in North London.
