Rajasthan Royals (RR) are on the verge of elimination from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The inaugural champions have won just 2 matches out of the 10 they’ve played and are on a 4-match losing streak. With just 6 matches left to play, they need to win them all to confirm their place in the IPL 2025 Playoffs.
RCB’s record at home
Later today, RR play the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who are ranked 4th on the points table. They need to beat Rajat Patidar and co. And luck might be on their side. That’s because RCB have lost all 3 matches they’ve played at their home, M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in IPL 2025.
Dravid banks on ex-RCB experience
These losses have been orchestrated by former RCB players. Mohammed Siraj for Gujarat Titans, Yuzvendra Chahal for Punjab Kings and KL Rahul for Delhi Capitals. This fact, even RR head coach Rahul Dravid finds it amusing. “Do we have an RCB player from last time? Play him in the XI straightaway,” Dravid joked before the RCB vs RR match.
He rightly pointed out that experience of playing at certain grounds can help. This exchange to players after the auction does help some. For example, Siraj and Chahal played for RCB for 7 and 8 years, respectively. So they know the ground well. For KL Rahul, it’s his home turf since childhood.
“You know, sometimes some opposition players who are coming from other franchises but who have been at Jaipur before or some who have been at RCB before might have played more at Bengaluru than some of the local RCB players because they are playing for the first year,” he added.
RR might have some slight insight as well. Shimron Hetmyer and Wanindu Hasaranga have played for RCB in the past as well. Hetmyer played just 5 matches in Chinnaswamy back in the IPL 2019 season, while Hasaranga played just 2 years back. Dravid would hope they shine bright and ensure RR are knocked out of the tournament.
