PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks star Corbin Carroll smoked two home runs, including a go-ahead shot in the seventh inning, but the Tampa Bay Rays came back and picked up a 7-6 win in 11 innings Wednesday at Chase Field.
Geraldo Perdomo grounded into a double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th to end the game.
Kameron Misner popped the go-ahead triple off Drey Jameson in the top half. The Rays piled on, as Yandy Diaz shot a RBI single to right for a key insurance run.
The D-backs cut the deficit with an Alek Thomas infield single to lead off the bottom half, as an errant throw scored the ghost runner, but struggles with runners in scoring position persisted.
Carroll’s heroics aside, the D-backs went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position while the Rays finished 7-for-18.
Arizona had chances to win before it reached the 11th inning. They had the bases loaded with two outs in the eighth, the top of the order up in the ninth and the ghost runner on second with no outs in the 10th.
Corbin Carroll continues to leave the yard
Carroll led off the bottom of the first with a rocket to right field off Rays starter Taj Bradley, his sixth career leadoff homer and second in four games.
In the seventh, right after Tampa Bay snatched the lead with two runs in the top half, Carroll crushed a a slider from left-hander Mason Montgomery over the yellow line in center field.
Carroll has nine home runs this season, which is tied for the MLB lead. Of his 33 hits this season, 18 have gone for extra bases in one of the most explosive starts to a season in club history:

The Rays, however, responded in the eighth inning with three straight hits off reliever Ryan Thompson to tie the game. Thompson clutched up to strand the bases loaded with nobody out and maintain the tie.
The Diamondbacks loaded the bases themselves with two outs in the bottom half against familiar face Edwin Uceta, but pinch hitter Gabriel Moreno lined out to right field.
Justin Martinez returns
Justin Martinez, who had not pitched since last Thursday due to fatigue, returned to the mound and delivered a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a strikeout to set up the top of the order.
After a 1-2-3 bottom half, the Diamondbacks entered their second extra-inning game of the season, the last being Sunday’s 3-2 win at the Chicago Cubs.
The Diamondbacks (14-10) moved to 1-1 in extra innings this year after they finished 5-8 in 2024.
Eduardo Rodriguez pitching well
Eduardo Rodriguez started this game for the Diamondbacks and put together a better performance than the box score suggests. Rodriguez allowed two earned runs through six innings and came back out for the seventh, which has not been common this season for Arizona starters.
Rodriguez gave up a bunt hit and a ground-rule double with one out before striking out Jose Caballero. He exited with the top of the order coming up to a standing ovation from the crowd at Chase Field. Shelby Miller entered, and Diaz lined a two-run single into center.
Rodriguez’s final line was 6.2 innings — tied for the longest start by a Diamondback this season — with six hits, four earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts.
