Ukiah Unified School District (UUSD) is excited to announce the appointment of four outstanding leaders to vital positions within the district. Angela O’Donnell, Jessica Hernandez, Kim Barden and James Snyder each bring a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to their new roles, further strengthening UUSD’s commitment to serving every student.
Angela O’Donnell(Contributed)Angela O’Donnell joins Ukiah Unified School District as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. With over 17 years of educational leadership experience, O’Donnell previously served as Human Resources Manager at Hillsborough City School District. She holds a Master’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Notre Dame de Namur University, as well as an Administrative Credential in the State of California.
O’Donnell is passionate about fostering supportive environments where educators and staff can thrive. “I believe that when we invest in and support our educators, we invest directly in the success of our students,” she shared. She is excited to join the UUSD team and contribute to the district’s ongoing commitment to excellence.
Jessica Hernandez has been named the new Principal at Calpella Elementary School. Bringing over a decade of educational leadership experience, Hernandez most recently served as a Migrant Teacher on Special Assignment at Santa Rosa City Schools. She holds a Master’s degree in Applied School Leadership from National University and an Administrative Credential in the State of California.
Hernandez is committed to creating a learning environment where every student feels valued and supported.
“My goal is to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff to ensure that every child reaches their fullest potential,” she said. She looks forward to joining the Calpella Elementary community.
Kim Barden (Contributed)Kim Barden steps into her new role as Coordinator of Educational Programs, Special Education at Ukiah Unified. With over six years of leadership experience in Special Education, Barden has served as a School Psychologist at Ukiah Unified School District and Mendocino County Office of Education. She holds a Master’s degree in School Psychology with a PPSP Credential from National University, along with a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy from Portland State University.
Barden is passionate about ensuring all students, regardless of their learning needs, have access to high-quality education and services. “Every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, and I am honored to support our educators and families in making that happen,” Barden shared.
James Snyder(contributed)James Snyder has been named the new Director of Educational Programs at the District Service Center. Snyder is currently an Assistant Principal at Ukiah High School, and brings over 20 years of educational experience to the new position. He holds a Master of Arts in Teaching, Mathematics from Western Governors University and an Administrative Credential in the State of California.
Snyder is excited to have a broader impact on programs that benefit students. “My experience of meeting the instructional needs of students prepares me to find and share new methods of connecting with students at the secondary level across the district,” Snyder said.
“We are thrilled to welcome Angela, Jessica, Kim, and Jim to our leadership team,” said Ukiah Unified Superintendent Debra Kubin. “Their dedication, experience, and student-centered approach will be instrumental in advancing our mission of preparing every student for success in college or career.”
