AN ICONIC feature loved by gearheads is set to return – with not one but three options to choose from.
In a dramatic change of mind, car giants Stellantis are looking to reintroduce the Hemi V-8 engine that’s a favourite among Chrysler fans.

The Stellantis experts reported that production of the powertrain will resume at the company’s Dundee Engine Plant, Michigan, in August.
But they’re not just bringing back one version of the engine either – but an entire series of three.
Primarily known for its use in muscle cars, the trio of engines will include the 5.7-liter Hemi, the 6.4-liter “Apache”, often referred to as the “392”, and the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat.
Previously, Hemi engines were built at the Stellantis factory in Saltillo, Mexico, where production began to wind down some years ago.
It eventually saw the twin-turbocharged “Hurricane” inline-six brought in instead – used for the Dodge Charger Daytona and Ram 1500 REV.
While the feeling among enthusiasts was that it would be phased out completely, as of 2025, the engine is still available in the Ram Heavy Duty pickup and Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat.
The V-8 has then received a second chance when Carlos Tavares resigned as Stellantis CEO.
Then, days later, Tim Kuniskis returned as head of Ram, months after having retired as CEO of the truck maker and Dodge.
Since then, speculation on the return of the V-8 has been rife.
This comes as the CEO of Dodge spoke out earlier this year on the possible return of one of the brand’s most iconic models.
The US car brand is going through significant changes under the ownership of mega-corporation Stellantis.
The manufacturer’s chief, Matt McAlear, has said they have found the push towards electrification somewhat tricky.
They faced plenty of criticism too, particularly with the launch of the electric Dodge Charger Daytona.
While McAlear admits the backlash “stings,” he believes electrification is the right move – but has also hinted at a possible V8 comeback for the Charger.
“V8 is no longer a bad word around the company,” he said in a recent interview with The Drive.
But while the talk focused on the Charger, what about the future of another much-loved Dodge sports car?
The Viper, which ran for 26 years from 1991 until it was discontinued in 2017, is a hot favorite among gearheads across the globe—and its return is hotly anticipated.
McAlear is certainly a fan, describing the Viper as “one of my favorite cars”—but he failed to clarify if a potential fourth-gen model was on the cards.
On whether there’s a need for a new halo car from Dodge, he added: “Is there a need? I don’t know if there’s a need. Is there a want, a desire, and a market? I think yeah.”
Dodge Hornet R/T Plus review
Ben Shimkus, an automotive journalist for The U.S. Sun, test-drove the Hornet. Here are their thoughts:
Pros:
Exciting driving dynamics: Speedy acceleration and a tight turning radius exude athletic prowess. Space: Sizable trunk and ample leg room in the back for adults or children High tech: Well-designed infotainment screen with a heavy amount of useful tech – including police warning alarms Fun design: Blends Alfa Romeo’s pretty body frames with just the right touch of Dodge-ness. It remains curvy, but muscular. Cool seats: The red-stitched seats are exceptionally fun.Cons:
Gas intake: The Hornet is less efficient than its road-manner-oriented competitors. Noisy: This has to be the loudest battery generator sound I have ever heard on a hybrid. Some odd touches: Weirdly placed sunroof and volume knobs take some getting used to. Read More Details
