For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Freestyle specialist Sora Koike has verbally committed to continuing her academic and swimming career at UCLA in the fall of 2026. Koike hails from California, where she swims for Alpha Aquatics and competes for El Segundo High School.
I am so excited to be announcing my verbal commitment to UCLA! I want to thank all my friends and family for their endless love and support; all my coaches especially Scott and Gabby for their unwavering dedication. And thank you @alpha_aquatics for being a second family. Extra gratitude to Coach Jordan and Karissa for being so loyal and gifting me this opportunity. I am incredibly proud to now be a part of this team; GO BRUINS!!
Koike qualified for and competed at the Winter Junior Championships in Austin last December. Her best performance came in the 200 free, where she notched a time of 1:49.17, ranking 18th overall after prelims. She also competed in the 50, 100, and 500 freestyles, finishing 83rd, 44th, and 52nd.
A week after Winter Juniors, Koike competed at the CA/NV Speedo Winter Sectionals, where she placed 2nd in the 50 free (23.06) and 8th in the 100 free (50.51), setting lifetime bests in both events. She also anchored Aloha Aquatics’ 4th-place 800 free relay with a 1:48.65 split, slightly faster than her flat-start best of 1:48.79.
Koike wrapped up her short course season in January at the CA RMDA Road To LA Senior Meet, where prelims were held in short course yards and finals in long course meters. Although she was slightly off her personal bests, her top finish came in the 50 free, where she placed 7th in the final after clocking a 24.36 in the prelims.

While those appear to be her top events on paper, her 200 free would have ranked slightly higher at 5th. UCLA’s top 50 freestyler this past season was freshman Emma Harvey, who led off the team’s 27th-place 200 free relay at the NCAA Championships with a 22.24. Redshirt junior Gizem Guvenc led the Bruins in both the 100 free (48.45) and 200 free (1:45.30).
UCLA placed 7th out of 14 teams at the 2025 Women’s Big Ten Conference Championships in their first year in the conference. The previous year, they ranked 4th at the 2024 Pac-12 Championships. The Bruins recently wrapped up their season at NCAAs in Federal Way, Washington, where they finished 37th. They scored 7 points in total, from junior diver Eden Cheng. The team is led by Head Coach Jordan Wolfrum, who just wrapped up her sixth season at the helm of the program.
Sina will join Zoie Fjare, Mia Bugarin, and Olivia Sina at UCLA in the fall of 2026. Fjare and Bugarin are also freestyle specialists while Sina is a backstroker.
