Welcome to spring! During April, we celebrate the warmer weather, the greening of plants and trees, and the return of bright, beautiful living things around us. Spring is a time of renewal and hope for what is to come, which is why we observe Easter and Earth Day in this season. I think of this time as a fresh start, much like the New Year.
This is the perfect time to renew our commitment to our Earth and environment, which are our home and the basis for all life, food, and even our livelihood. To celebrate the Earth, there will be a free Earth Day Fair in Greeley.
You are invited to participate in this fun and interactive event for both kids and adults. The fair will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greeley (929 15th St.) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26. It will take place rain, snow or sunshine. The fair will include children’s activities, master gardeners, recycling information, electric bike tests, composting demonstrations, and much more, including free books provided by Midnight Oil bookstore. Children’s activities will include making a bird feeder, a scavenger hunt, painting canvas bags, planting seeds, worm bin find it game, memory card game featuring Latino climate champions. A food truck, El Tacorriendo, will also be serving food and beverages.
Additionally, the film “2040” will be shown at 1:15 p.m. at the church. This documentary looks to the future but is vitally important now. A story of hope that looks at the very real possibility that humanity could reverse global warming and improve the lives of every living thing in the process. Come let yourself be inspired.
The Earth Day Fair will be hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Church and the Greeley Chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL). The UU Church has a mission of caring for our Mother Earth. It is understood that all are connected by the interdependent web of existence.
The Citizens Climate Lobby is a nationwide organization dedicated to advocating for a clean environment and promoting renewable, clean energy sources. CCL collaborates with elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels to support legislation aimed at ensuring that current and future generations can enjoy a healthy environment with abundant clean energy. As a bipartisan, non-profit, grassroots organization, we believe in coexisting harmoniously with our environment. Climate Change is a pressing issue that the majority of Americans recognize as real and impactful. Our actions, both past and present, have led to warmer temperatures and more variable precipitation patterns. The consequences of these changes are far-reaching, affecting all of us, and even more so, our children and grandchildren. The urgency of the situation requires immediate and concerted efforts from all sectors of society.
We also believe in the principles of democracy and working collaboratively. Addressing climate change will require a multitude of ideas and actions, both big and small. It is not a challenge that can be solved by any single entity or approach. Instead, it will take innovative solutions, widespread cooperation, and sustained commitment from individuals, communities, businesses, and governments.
We hope you are concerned and want to take action. Join us at the Earth Day Fair and be part of the solution. Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure a sustainable world for generations to come.
