Baseball

Windsor 6, Mead 2, in Mead: Windsor decisively won its seventh consecutive game and improved to 13-3 overall, 5-1 in Class 5A/4A Northern Conference play. The Wizards started fast, leading 4-1 after one inning. Senior Ethan Fillinger led the way, hitting 2 for 4 with two RBI, two runs and a home run. Windsor junior Wyatt Gustafson pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing two unearned runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking two.

Highland sweeps twin bill, in Wray: Highland flexed its offensive muscles in a doubleheader, defeating Wray 9-6 and 11-1. Senior DJ Rogers hit 2 for 3 with four RBI, a run and a home run in Game 1 of the twin bill. Senior Sawyer Morgan and junior Stetson Hendren had three RBI apiece in Game 2. Hendren hit 2 for 3 and had the fourth home run of his season. The Huskies extended their win streak to six games and improved to 10-4-1 overall, 4-1 in 2A Lower Platte League play.

Fort Morgan 11, Platte Valley 6, in Fort Morgan: Platte Valley couldn’t match Fort Morgan’s run production, despite the Broncos out-hitting the Mustangs 11-6. Fort Morgan scored in each of its last four offensive innings. Platte Valley fell to 10-6 overall, 3-2 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play.

Liberty Common 9, Weld Central 6, in Fort Collins: A 16-hit outing was not enough for Weld Central to put an end to a three-game losing streak. The Rebels led early, 2-1, before the Eagles scored two runs in the third and three more in the fifth. Weld Central tied the game at 6 with four runs in the top of the sixth, but Liberty Common again took the advantage with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Rebels senior Ross Phelps and Lucas Johann had two RBI apiece. Sophomore Luke Witzel and freshman Andruw Prince each had three hits. Weld Central fell to 6-9 overall, 0-4 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play.

Girls soccer

Frontier Academy 4, Greeley West 0, at District 6 Stadium: Frontier Academy put forth a consistent attack against its crosstown foe, scoring two goals in each half. The Wolverines won their ninth consecutive match, improving to 9-2 overall. Greeley West suffered its sixth consecutive loss, falling to 3-8-2 overall.

Girls tennis

Severance wins nearby invite, in Windsor: Windsor hosted six other programs during its home invitational, as Severance placed first with 48 points. Eaton was second (33), Windsor tied for fourth (19), and University was sixth (6). Among the local highlights, Silver Knights sophomore Joanna Carter won at No. 1 singles, while Severance freshman Josephine Carter won at No. 2 singles.

Track and field

Roosevelt hosts Randall Hess, in Johnstown: After Friday’s wintry weather passed, Roosevelt welcomed 46 other schools into its home stadium for the annual Randall Hess Invitational. Timnath (92 points) won the girls team title, while Fort Collins (75) placed first in the boys standings.

The host Rough Riders were fifth (38) in the girls standings and 14th (17) in the boys standings. Windsor’s girls were sixth (35) and its boys were 11th (19). Resurrection Christian placed ninth (30) in the girls standings and tied for 22nd (8) in the boys standings. Eaton’s girls were 14th (25) and its boys tied for 20th (10).

University tied for 16th (18) in the girls standings and was seventh (30.5) in the boys standings. Severance’s girls tied for 21st (7) and its boys were 18th (13). Northridge’s girls were 30th (.25), as were its boys (5). Frontier Academy’s boys were 27th (6.5). Dayspring Christian’s boys tied for 32nd (3).

Windsor’s team of junior Kendal Bach, Kiana Cumings, Maggie Bush and Ava Schaefer placed first in the girls 3,200-meter relay with a time of 9 minutes, 42.05 seconds. Cumings, senior Lindsey Hinson, senior Madelyn Von Tersch and junior Olivia Cruz were first in the girls 800 relay with a meet record (1:38.68).

Roosevelt junior Braelyn Bailey was first in girls high jump with a meet record height of 5 feet, 6 inches. Rough Riders senior Taegan Olson won girls pole vault (11′ 4″). University senior Nicholas Rothe won boys pole vault (15′ 8″). Fort Lupton sophomore Said Martinez won the mixed unified 100 with a meet record (12.72) and the 200, also with a meet record (26.57).

Eaton sophomore Cooper Wiedeman placed first in boys javelin (138′). University junior Madelyn McNair won girls javelin (94′ 3″).

Platte Valley hosts Stampede, in Kersey: During a busy weekend of local track action, Platte Valley hosted its 16-team annual home meet, the Bronco Stampede.

Yuma won the girls team title (107 points), while Holyoke won the boys title (107). Platte Valley’s girls were second (96), while its boys were sixth (55). Greeley West’s boys placed second (86), and its girls were sixth (43). Dayspring Christian was fifth (55) in the girls standings and 14th (6) in the boys standings.

Weld Central’s girls were seventh (33), and its boys placed eighth (44). Prairie’s girls were ninth (23), and its boys were 13th (21).

Platte Valley senior Lauryn Uyemura was one of many local first-place finishers. She won the girls 100 hurdles with a time of 17.73. Dayspring Christian freshman Gracie Gilmore was first in the girls 300 hurdles (49.26), one spot ahead of Uyemura (50.34). Weld Central junior Zach Francis Gould won boys discus with a throw of 152′ 5″.

Platte Valley senior Talyn Short won boys long jump (19′ 1.75″). Weld Central junior Vivian Rossi won girls high jump (4′ 9″). Greeley West freshman Jax Lamb won the boys 100 (11.45). Platte Valley junior Leeandra Natotschi was first in girls shot put (11′ 9.5″) and discus (17′ 7″).

Valley competes, in Brush: Valley’s boys were fourth (78) and its girls placed fifth (59) out of eight teams during the Beetdigger Invitational, hosted by Brush. Vikings senior Brianna Orona Aguilar won girls high jump with a height of 5′ 1″. Her senior Valley teammate Nevaeh Jimenez won girls shot put (34′ 2.5″) and was second in discus (104′ 11″). The Vikings team of senior Erick Muniz Zuniga, senior Brian Lykens, senior Dillon French and junior Andres Salas Vasques won the boys 800 relay (1:36.84).

Boys volleyball

Greeley Central goes 0-3, in Aurora: Greeley Central lost a trio of matches in Overland’s home tournament, falling 2-0 (25-20, 25-22) to Boulder, 2-1 (25-21, 20-25, 15-11) to Colorado Springs Christian and 2-0 (25-18, 25-22) to Overland. The Wildcats saw their losing streak extend to five matches, falling to 3-17 overall.
