New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm didn’t appreciate the calls from home plate umpire John Bacon on Thursday night, April 17, and he let the world know about it.
Chisholm, 27, was ejected from the Yankees’ 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays after arguing a called third strike with Bacon, 41, in the seventh inning. The second-year Yankee then unloaded on Bacon via X from the clubhouse.
“Not even … close!!!!!” he wrote in the since-deleted post.
Chisholm’s post seemed to violate two Major League Baseball rules. One prohibits players from using electronic devices during games. The other prohibits them from “displaying or transmitting content that questions the impartiality of or otherwise denigrates a major league umpire.”

Chisholm spoke with the media after the game where he addressed his ejection and appeared to allude to his social media post.
“I didn’t think before I had anything that I said was ejectable but after probably,” he said. “I’m a competitor, so when I go out there and I feel like I’m right and you’re saying something to me that I think doesn’t make sense, I’m going to get fired up and be upset.”

Replay showed that the pitch that ultimately resulted in Chisholm’s ejection was, in fact, a missed call. It should have been ball four, which would have sent Chisholm to first base.
Chisholm came to the Yankees during the 2024 season via a trade with the Miami Marlins. He gave the veteran team a youthful jolt down the stretch, helping New York reach the World Series for the first time since 2009. (The Yankees eventually lost the series to the Los Angeles Dodgers.)
Now in his second season in pinstripes, he’s one of the most popular players on the team. He’s also been an active member of the New York sports community, repping fellow Bahamian and New York Liberty star Jonquel Jones by wearing her jersey during the Liberty’s run to the WNBA Championship last season.
Jones, who was named MVP of the 2024 WNBA Finals, returned the favor by wearing Chisholm’s jersey in the tunnel before games down the stretch.
“I was kind of scared when he got to the Yankees, because I’m like, ‘I don’t know if they’re gonna try to take his swag away — but you can’t take Jazz’s swag away,” Jones said in a story for Complex last October. “I’m happy that he’s there, and I’m happy that we get to support each other in that way.”
