JSerra has hired former Crean Lutheran co-coach Rachael Ziemann as its girls basketball coach, the Trinity League school announced and Ziemann confirmed.
Ziemann and her twin sister Bianca guided Crean Lutheran for a five-year stretch that ended after the 2023-24 season.
“I am honored and blessed to be named the head coach of JSerra Catholic High School girls basketball,” Rachael Ziemann said in a statement to The Orange County Register on Wednesday. “This opportunity means to so much to me, and I am deeply committed to building a Christ-like culture of excellence, hard work and integrity both on and off the court.”
JSerra announced the hiring with a press release on April 10 and posts on its athletic website and social media. The Lions also updated the hiring on the CIF-SS media website. JSerra principal Eric Stroupe and athletic director Chris Ledyard didn’t immediately return messages on Wednesday and Thursday.
Rachael Ziemann replaces interim coach Phil Talleur, who took the reins during last season for Chyanne Butler.
At Crean Lutheran, the Ziemann sisters combined to guide the Saints to two Empire League titles and five playoff appearances.
The twins were multi-sport athletes at Edison and went onto play basketball at Loyola Marymount.
Rachael Ziemann said she will be assisted at JSerra by Bianca and Geena Gomez. Gomez also served as an assistant at Crean Lutheran and coaches with the sisters at Flames Basketball Club.
Last season, JSerra went 18-11, placed second in the Trinity League and lost to San Clemente 70-68 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs. The Lions could return their entire starting lineup next season.
The school claimed the CIF-SS Division 3A title in 2023.
“I can’t wait to get started and help this program reach its full potential,” Rachael Ziemann said of JSerra.
