DENVER (KDVR) — A jury reached a guilty verdict on Thursday afternoon in the case where a Broomfield man was accused of murdering his wife after sending texts under the identity of one of her ex-boyfriends, referring to her "loser husband" and that she was being watched.
Daniel Krug was charged with first-degree murder, stalking and criminal impersonation.
In the fall of 2023, Kristil Krug received a text from a number claiming to be her ex-boyfriend, which stated he wanted to "hook up" while he was in her town. She did not respond, but was sent several messages afterward.

Investigators later determined that the texts had not come from the ex-boyfriend, and were able to trace them back to the husband of Kristil, Daniel Krug.
He was arrested on Dec. 16, 2023, which was two days after his wife was found in the garage of their home by a police officer.
Police said there were several inconsistencies that led to the presumption of Daniel as a suspect.
He made a call to police asking for a welfare check while he was at work at the state health department because his wife had not been responding to his text messages.
During the investigation, Kristil's mother said that she had three security cameras installed at the home due to the stalking threat. During the time of her killing, none of the cameras were recording, and the one in the garage had tape over the lens, according to the arrest affidavit.
Investigators looked at neighbor's security cameras and said that the cameras did not show any unknown person entering the home in the hours leading up to her death.
The affidavit said Kristil had previously contacted police about the text messages sent to her and they performed an IP address trace, which led to the workplace of Daniel. Daniel also allegedly used a burner phone that was purchased with a gift card bought under his name.

Kristil's mother told police that the relationship between Kristil and Daniel was not good and that Kristil was seeking divorce and full custody of their three children.
