Lee Corso retirement: College football fans, media react to legendary GameDay analyst calling it a career ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Lee Corso is one of the most beloved figures in college football.

Just take a look at the outpouring of love the legendary ESPN broadcaster was shown on Thursday when the network announced that he will retire in August. Corso will make one final appearance on College GameDay on Aug. 30 and then call it a career. Following the news of his retirement, friends, colleagues, and fans all across the sport gave Corso his flowers for nearly 40 years of college football coverage.

“Coach Corso has had an iconic run in broadcasting, and we’re all lucky to have been around to witness it,” friend and GameDay partner Kirk Herbstreit said in a statement. “He has taught me so much throughout our time together, and he’s been like a second father to me. It has been my absolute honor to have the best seat in the house to watch Coach put on that mascot head each week.”Herbstreit cut a longer video on Thursday, thanking Corso for their friendship over the years. GameDay host Rece Davis did the same.

Below, you’ll find some of the reaction to Corso’s retirement from elsewhere around ESPN and the broader college football landscape.
