Is this what Gabe Evans is really fighting for?
I saw in a recent article that Gabe Evans was “fighting for lower costs, safer communities, and making the American Dream possible for all Coloradans.” How does the following align with his lowering costs, safer communities, and the American Dream?
1. Taking away money for medical research and help with prescription costs.
2. Taking away funds to support food for children. Mom used to say, “Eat your peas, there are starving children in China.” Today, 15.3% of U.S. children live in poverty (2023 data).
3. Removing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
4. Threatening free speech and blocking accurate news. Maybe reinstate the Fairness Doctrine?
5. Damaging the environment (cutting the EPA) and not supporting our national parks? In Evans’ district, we already have days where the air quality index is not safe.
6. Cutting the Department of Education? Really?
7. Allowing leaders who lie and are unqualified to hold leadership positions in our government (e.g., Hegseth, Gabbard, other posts filled by Trump).
8. Firing federal employees who hold key jobs for the American people.
9. Putting Social Security, Medicaid, SNAP benefits, Veterans’ care, etc. at risk? The American people and businesses paid into Social Security; this is the people’s money. Cutting benefits that were prepaid is theft. Privatizing Social Security would benefit the rich only and risk the financial safety and security of the people that Evans says he is fighting for.
Medicaid, really? Has Evans taken the time to learn what it takes to qualify for Medicaid? SSI? SSDI?
This above list is not complete; the goals Evans has established are not being met. Taxes are valued when they are taking care of my family, people in need, and provide necessary services (Veterans Administration, CFPB, EPA, etc.).

Parallels between Nazi Germany and 2025 America
The Holocaust Memorial Observances last week reminded me again of the desperately dangerous time in which we live. The list of enemies in Germany in the 1930s (Jews, Roma, Poles, communists, homosexuals, disabled people, Jehovah’s Witnesses, college professors, unions, and any opponent or dissenter) parallels our current authoritarian leader’s list of enemies (immigrants, Muslims, political rivals, unions, “disliked” news outlets, critics, anyone not sufficiently loyal, and any investigator of Trump).
Other parallels: the big lie then (Germany under attack by Jews) and the big lie now (stolen election, widespread fraud, Trump under attack, and the U.S. being invaded); mass deportations then and now; then (Make Germany Great Again) and now (Make America Great Again); leadership mindset then and now (never admit fault nor accept blame); leaders then and now invoke emergency powers and suspended freedoms; leaders empowered special security forces then (Gestapo, Storm Troopers, SS) and now (ICE, Border Patrol, Homeland Security, Armed Forces, etc.); Reichstag burned then, Capitol attacked now; then an act allowed new laws to override the Constitution, now Trump ignores the Constitution, laws and courts; then they rewrote German history, now they rewrite American history; then they established a card index of Nazi opponents, now DOGE accesses private files on citizens from numerous federal agencies. While Trump may not be a Nazi, he is an authoritarian who seems to want to be a dictator.
It’s not just specific policies or executive orders that threaten our American government, it’s dismantling, ignoring and bypassing the constitutional democratic procedures and safeguards that are the greatest threats to our nation. In spite of being cumbersome at times, they are what make America great. We must never allow a wannabe dictator to rule our democracy. We must take action before it’s too late. Protest now!
