Inside Paddy & Christine McGuinness’ ‘messy’ divorce as he claims to have no money left and she ‘fumes’ over house sale ...Middle East

ON the face of it, their marriage appeared to end pretty amicably as they agreed to keep living together for the sake of their children.

But it is now claimed Paddy and Christine McGuinness’s decision to stay under the same roof has ultimately led to the rift between them burning deeper than the hole in his wallet since they split.

Sources told The Sun that comedian Paddy, 51, is still shelling out on model Christine — including paying for her Land Rover Defender — almost three years after their break-up.

They are now in the process of trying to sell their £6.5million, seven-bedroom mansion, which they bought together for £2.1million in 2017.

But friends have suggested that Christine, 37, has no desire to leave the plush pad, despite claiming she wants to be “independent”.

Insiders have also raised eyebrows over the mum-of-three’s recent public comments about the divorce — including her claim that she has spent £300,000 on legal fees.

A source close to Christine revealed: “Some of what she has been saying just isn’t right. The amount she’s spent on lawyers is actually closer to the £70,000 mark. It would only have skyrocketed to near the figures she’s thrown out there if their case had gone the full way in court, but it didn’t.

“Everything is now hinging on the sale of the house.

“She hasn’t got a cash payment from Paddy yet. She’ll get that when they eventually sell the property.

‘She thought she would clean up’

“At the moment, Paddy is paying for everything — the house bills and even Christine’s car.”

However, defending Christine’s £300,000 divorce bill claims, and the suggestion she is desperate to stay in the marital home, another source close to the reality star insisted: “She certainly hasn’t refused to leave the house. They both own it and are entitled to live there. There is no tension growing between them.

“They are also absolutely fine to be under the same roof before it sells.”

Both Paddy and Christine are listed on Land Registry documents as owners of the sprawling home in Prestbury, Cheshire, which has its own gym and swimming pool.

Christine last year hired “pitbull” divorce lawyer Catherine Bedford — who helped bag a reported £31million payout for Ant McPartlin’s ex-wife Lisa Armstrong.

She recently said that the £300,000 she allegedly forked out in legal fees had come “out of my own money, that I didn’t even have”, adding: “I’m still paying for it.”

A source said: “After hiring Catherine, Christine thought she would clean up in a similar way to Lisa.

“But it hasn’t quite worked out like that. And she whines about having to pay for her own legal fees. Who else is she expecting to cover them? It’s absolutely outrageous.”

Christine said in an interview earlier this week that moving out of the marital home is “not an option for me — we both own the house”.

She added: “I’m devastated about the sale. We don’t know how long it’s going to take.

“We’re not in a big rush, but it’s inevitable and our children are getting older.

“So, it just feels like maybe it’s the right time for me to be independent, to stand up on my own two feet and just hope for the best.”

It had been reported last month that Christine was “fuming” over the price tag slapped on the property by Paddy.

She was said to have felt as though he had deliberately put it on the market for significantly more than it is worth in a bid to stop it selling.

But a source blasted: “If she truly felt that way, then Christine could just go and get her own valuation done on the house. But deep down she doesn’t want to.

‘We are having a very, very difficult time’

“As soon as the house is sold, that’s it — Christine is on her own.

“She won’t have Paddy there to keep paying for things and she’ll have to make her own way in life like a normal person.

“It will be a shock to the system for her when this all finally comes to an end.”

Paddy and Christine met in 2007 after being introduced by a mutual friend, and got engaged two years later.

They tied the knot in 2011 at the swanky Thornton Manor estate in The Wirral, Merseyside, with 200 guests including Paddy’s comic pal, Peter Kay.

The couple went on to have three children — twins Penelope and Leo, 11, and eight-year-old Felicity, who all have autism.

Christine was also diagnosed with the condition in 2021.

But their relationship — which was rocked by cheating allegations — came to an end in 2022.

Christine was the first to publicly confirm the marriage was on the rocks in an interview with The Sun on Sunday’s Fabulous magazine, saying at the time: “What I might have put up with in the past, I probably wouldn’t put up with now, and it’s the same for him.

“I can’t deny we are having a very, very difficult time. It’s just — we’ve been together 15 years, 11 years married; we are gonna have ups and downs — but this situation at the minute . . .

“I don’t want to go into it too much, but I will just say that I didn’t cause this situation.”

Days later, the couple officially announced their split in a joint statement.

They said: “We’ll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together.”

Former Top Gear and Take Me Out presenter Paddy, for his part, has mostly kept silent on their divorce, bar the odd joke about it.

That includes a gag from last October, on the first night of his Nearly There stand-up tour — a quip which reportedly did not go down well with Christine.

Addressing the audience, Paddy said: “Tonight, folks, we’re all here as human beings with one common goal — and that’s to help me pay for my divorce.

“I’ve had the pants down, me — the pants down.”

Chatting about his tour on a podcast last month, he said: “It is a different style of show, but I have just started the second leg and it has been going down an absolute storm.

“I still get that feeling just before I go on, going, ‘F***, why are we doing this?’.

“And then I remember I am divorced. ‘Oh yeah, that’s why!’. I have no money. But honestly, it has been doing really, really well.”

As this messy saga rumbles on, it remains to be seen whether it’s Christine or Paddy who has the last laugh . . .
