Denver Broncos bolster offense in four-round mock draft ...Middle East

Would it be a reach if the Denver Broncos took Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson with the 20th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in a couple of weeks? In today’s Mock Draft Monday, Henderson lands in the Mile High City and it wasn’t necessarily a difficult decision.

Denver Broncos bolster offense in latest four-round mock draft

In just two weeks time, the Denver Broncos will be on the clock and many highly touted draft analysts believe they’ll take a wide receiver, running back, or tight end in the first round of the NFL Draft. I conducted a four-round mock draft using Pro Football Network’s Mock Draft Simulator and let the board fall to me.

Broncos add TreVeyon Henderson at 20th overall

TreVeyon Henderson has the chance to become another ‘Joker’ for Sean Payton and his offense alongside Evan Engram, but at the tailback position. Initially, I wanted to take Emeka Egbuka at 20th overall, but by doing so, I would have risked out on losing Henderson potentially before the 51st overall pick in the second round.

ICYMI: Broncos add veteran safety, special teamer Sam Franklin Jr.

There’s been a growing buzz that Henderson could go in round one or early in round two, where it wouldn’t come as a shock if teams suddenly went on a run at the running back position.

Payton and the Broncos have shown that they don’t care about the proverbial line of thinking that many draft analysts have about prospects. As a matter of fact, the Broncos have more information and context on players than anybody in the media, and they have conviction with the options they have.

In this mock draft, I took Henderson, who adds immediate value to the Broncos offense as a rusher, pass catcher, ball security, and more importantly, pass protection. He’s one of the safest selections in this year’s draft, in my opinion, and instantly upgrades the Broncos’ running back room.

In three of his four seasons at Ohio State, he had double-digit touchdowns, including 11 total touchdowns in 2024 as a member of the Buckeyes. Henderson finished the year with 1016 yards on 144 rushing attempts, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. His contact balance, explosiveness and multifaceted ability to hurt opposing defenses on the ground and through the air is the perfect formula for Payton and this offense with Bo Nix under center.

Denver Broncos pair Courtland Sutton with Jayden Higgins in second round

Sean Payton loves wide receivers who have size in their favor. Iowa State’s Jayden Higgins could end up being a late round one pick, but he was available in the second round here when the Broncos were on the clock.

Higgins made sense to me because it’s important to invest in insurance at the wide receiver position. With Courtland Sutton and the Broncos heading in the right direction regarding contract talks, Higgins gives Denver another sizable wide receiver who has reliable hands and can thrive in contested catch situations.

This move adds competition to the Broncos receiver room, and while Payton acknowledged the team is higher on their wide receiver room than many may think, he’s a big believer in competition elevating the roster. A Higgins addition would be to pair alongside Sutton and would lead to competition for Vele, A.T. Perry, and Troy Franklin, although Franklin will play a different role than Vele, Higgins, or Perry would because of his speed.

In 2024 at Iowa State, Higgins hauled in 87 catches for 1183 yards and nine touchdowns, following up his impressive 2023 campaign where he hauled in 53 catches for 983 yards and six touchdowns.

Bo Nix reunites with Terrance Ferguson in the third round

Bo Nix and Terrance Ferguson had a reliable connection at the University of Oregon in 2022 and 2023. In the third round, I have the Broncos adding Ferguson to the mix, even though they signed Evan Engram in NFL Free Agency.

Veteran Adam Trautman is entering the final year of his contract with the team, Engram has had some injuries pop up in the last couple of seasons, and the Broncos are in a position to invest in the future of the position itself.

Ferguson comes in at 6’5, 247 pounds after running the fastest 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine at the tight end position. In his two seasons with Nix at Oregon, he caught 74 passes for 805 yards and 11 touchdowns in an offense that featured Troy Franklin, Tez Johnson, and a balanced rushing attack.

Ferguson, a local Colorado HS product, would have a nice homecoming but would be adding immediate value to the Broncos’ offense as a role player. He showcased the ability to win against zone and man coverage at the Senior Bowl, where his stock only elevated.

Broncos add ballhawk safety in fourth round

Safety is a position that the Broncos don’t necessarily need to add to, but it never hurts with how often NFL rosters change. Injuries can throw a wrench into a loaded position room and that’s always a possibility, so I had the Broncos take Alabama safety Malachi Moore in the fourth round as an investment and insurance policy at the position.

Right now, the Broncos’ projected starters at safety are Talanoa Hufanga and Brandon Jones, with veteran P.J. Locke still in the mix. JL Skinner and Devon Key are both returning, as is Delarrin Turner-Yell, Keidron Smith, Tanner McCalister, and Sam Franklin Jr., who was just added to the roster last week.

In reality, Locke, Key, Turner-Yell, Franklin Jr., McCalister, and Smith will be unrestricted free agents in 2026, with Skinner and Jones set to be free agents in 2027. Not adding to this position with a handful of expiring deals would be irresponsible.

Moore brings a hard-nosed, versatile attitude to the safety position, where he possesses elite-level ballhawk skills. In his four-year career at Alabama, he had seven interceptions and 25 passes defensed to go along with 214 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles.

He wouldn’t play much as a rookie defensively unless there was a special package for him, but he could play right away on special teams for Darren Rizzi.

Next week, we’ll conduct one final mock draft in line with the latest buzz surrounding the Broncos going into the NFL Draft.
