The Chicago Sky are making moves.

The WNBA team have acquired the No. 11 overall pick from the Minnesota Lynx ahead of Monday’s draft in a deal that demonstrates their intent for this season’s campaign.

In exchange for their 11th pick, Minnesota will keep Sky’s 2026 first-round pick.

Last year, the Lynx obtained Chicago’s 2026 first-round pick as part of a deal that saw the Sky move up for the seventh pick, which would later become Angel Reese.

However, as part of that deal the Lynx had to swap their first round pick but Sunday’s deal mean they no longer have to do so.

Therefore, in 2026 the Lynx will have two first-round picks with one being Chicago’s 2026 selection.

“We believe the 2025 draft class is deep and we’re excited about the flexibility we obtain by acquiring another first-round pick this year,” Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca said.

For Monday’s draft, the Sky will now have the No. 10 and No. 11 in the first round and No.16 and No.22 in the second round.

Such a deal does leave Chicago looking thin for next year’s draft as should they miss out on the playoffs, a potential high pick will go to the Lynx.

However it does demonstrate the confidence the Sky enter this season with and gives them the capitol to potential make a package to move up for the right player.

The WNBA team made headlines earlier this year when they traded their No.3 selection this year for the Washington Mystics’ Ariel Atkins.

Now with two relatively high picks in this year’s draft, Chicago clearly are interested in improving their roster now, not later.

They narrowly missed out on the playoffs last year when they finished two wins away from the postseason in tenth.

Their fate of missing the playoffs was seemingly decided when Reese suffered a wrist injury late in the regular season.

Before the 22-year-old was injured her and Chicago were getting into form.

Reese particularly was enjoying a stellar campaign, as she made the All-Star game and broke league and franchise records.

With 26 double-doubles last year, Reese posted the second-most double-doubles in a single season in WNBA history and the most ever as a rookie.

15 of those 26 double-doubles came consecutively, which is another record.

Reese also had a double-double (12 points and 11 rebounds) in the WNBA All-Star game, becoming the first-ever rookie to achieve that.

Across the season, the WNBA star formed a solid front court partnership with Kamila Cardoso on defence.

And with the arrival of Atkins for this season, their team just got better.

Reese and Chicago will be back in action when the WNBA returns on May. 17.

The Sky take on the Indiana Fever on opening weekend in what is a blockbuster clash.
