The "Made You Look" singer, 31, got candid about still wanting to be a judge on American Idol while chatting exclusively with Parade for her partnership with Arm & Hammer Laundry PowerSheets.
"It's my dream job. My dream is to drive to work and then do something musically and then drive home, you know?" she says. "But Carrie Underwood got it, and I was like, 'If anyone's gonna get it, I hope it's her.' I was like, 'Duh.' So I wasn't totally crushed when I didn't get it, but I [thought], this makes sense."
Noting that she's appeared on numerous singing competition shows in the past — including The Voice UK and Australian Idol — Trainor goes on to tell Parade that her love of discovering new artists is the driving force behind her desire to be on American Idol.
"I just know how much I love it. I get way too passionate, and I get way too involved," she says. "I just love these humans, and I think they're superheroes that are so brave. So yeah, that's a big dream job. I'll do it someday. Maybe in my 40s."

"I need something quick that can gather all the [laundry] for the day. I throw in my PowerSheets, and I feel better about all the laundry and how quick it has to be. It just makes life so much easier," she explains, adding that they shot the "cutest commercial ever" for the partnership.
"I looked adorable. I was dancing, doing laundry casually, and I rewrote the words for my song, 'Been Like This.' It's a really cute spin on that song," Trainor adds. "So, it was a dream. I was like, I'm a pop star doing laundry right now, dancing and singing my songs. This is exactly my life."
