Johnstown man arrested on cocaine, meth distribution charges ...Saudi Arabia

A Johnstown man faces a pair of felony charges after police found nearly 40 grams of cocaine and nearly 60 grams of methamphetamine in his vehicle after a fender bender last month.

Police arrested 52-year-old Todd Shelton on March 26 after they originally responded when he rear-ended another vehicle in Johnstown. He faces two charges of drug possession with intent to distribute — both felonies — as well as a petty offense charge for paraphernalia, according to Colorado court records.

Just after 10:30 p.m., Johnstown police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at Parish Avenue and South First Street.

When officers arrived, they determined the driver of a Cadillac, later identified as Shelton, rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped at a red light in a westbound lane of South First Street, according to the affidavit.

Police contacted Shelton and say they saw a glass pipe typically used for smoking meth in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard.

Police detained Shelton, and when searching the Cadillac found a large bag of cocaine — and a larger bag of meth — in a backpack on the floor behind the driver’s seat, according to the affidavit.

The cocaine later weighed 39.98 grams and the meth weighed 58.34 grams, police say.

Officers also found several small, unused bags consistent with selling drugs, inside a larger zip lock bag, as well as a scale and two more pipes containing drug residue, according to the affidavit.

Police also uncovered a magazine for a handgun but did not find the gun itself.

Shelton was released March 30 on $30,000 bond ahead of an advisement hearing May 29 in Weld District Court.
