ESPN’s “College GameDay” made a slam dunk hire with former Alabama head coach Nick Saban this past season. Now, the legendary head coach is being nominated for an award related to his broadcasting work.
On Tuesday, The Emmys revealed 5 nominees for the Personality/Emerging On-Air Talent award. Saban’s work on GameDay was included alongside Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jason Kelce, Richard Sherman and Jay Wright. Fitzpatrick, Kelce and Sherman are all former NFL players, while Wright is the former basketball head coach at Villanova.

The Sports Emmys will be revealed during a May 20 event. That is certainly a strong group of personalities, but anyone who watched College GameDay this year understands the magnitude of Saban’s work.
After hanging up his whistle at Alabama football, Saban joined ESPN for its coverage of the NFL Draft and college football season, regularly captivating fans with his football acumen and dry humor. Not all former coaches and players have been able to make the jump into television, but Saban made it appear seamless.
