Meta closing 3 offices in Bay Area ...Middle East

(KRON) -- Social media giant Meta is closing three of its offices in Fremont, the company said in a statement Monday. Here is the list of closing offices:

Meta, which is the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, did not say when the offices would officially close. The tech giant did not give a reason as to why it decided to close those offices.

Employees working in those offices are being consolidated to "other offices in the area," according to a statement from Meta sent to KRON4. Although the company has multiple offices in Fremont, Meta's headquarters are located across the Dumbarton Bridge in Menlo Park on Hacker Way.

Other Meta offices in the Bay Area are located in San Francisco, Sausalito, Burlingame, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and Mountain View.

The office closures come after Meta announced in January that it would cut about 5 percent of its workforce, resulting in approximately 3,600 people losing their jobs. The layoffs were based on performance, and those who were deemed "low-performers" lost their jobs.

Last fall, Meta also underwent a round of layoffs for staff working under the WhatsApp and Instagram platforms, along with its virtual reality unit, Reality Labs.
