Virat Kohli smashed a 42-ball 67 to become the leading all-time run-scorer against Mumbai Indians. The 36-year-old, the leading run-scorer in the history of the IPL, was in superb touch for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.
Virat Kohli vs Mumbai Indians
Kohli now has 980 runs against Mumbai Indians from 36 matches including the IPL and the now discontinued Champions League T20. This was Kohli’s 6th fifty against MI with a best of 92 not out. He won the first round against Jasprit Bumrah, dispatching him for a six in his first over before taking apart Deepak Chahar.
Kohli raced away to his 57th fifty in IPL and his second of IPL 2025 and was looking good for a hundred before falling to Hardik Pandya. He had won the Orange Cap last year and started this season with a sublime fifty against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Against Chennai Super Kings, Kohli appeared to be a little rusty before picking momentum on a slow surface and then flopped against Gujarat Titans at his home ground a few days later.
13,000 Runs in T20s Overall for Best Batter
On Monday, Kohli vs Bumrah was the most anticipated battle but apart from a six, it all proved to be an anticlimax as the RCB mainstay took on the others in the MI line-up and created a strong platform for his side. In the course of his innings, Kohli became the first Indian to score 13000 runs in T20 cricket. He is now one shy of becoming the second cricketer after David Warner to hit 100 fifties in T20 cricket.
