While not yet a household name, Jeremy Monga is someone Leicester City fans have been raving about for some time.

The 15-year-old winger has made a rapid rise through the Foxes’ youth ranks, quickly outgrowing the U18 side to become an established regular at U23 level.

And at the tender age of 15 years and 271 days old he’s been handed his Premier League debut, Monga coming on in the 74th minute at the King Power Stadium.

He is the second youngest player in Premier League history, behind Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri, who made his debut for Arsenal agaist Brentford at 15 years and 181 days old in September 2022.

Monga strode onto the pitch to a rousing reception with his shirt not having Leicester’s sponsor of B.C Game.

This is because B.C Game is a cryptocurrency and gambling platform, and are prohibited for people under 18 in the UK.

Despite his clear quality for the Leicester and England youth teams, it’s unlikely Monga is going to inspire Leicester to getting anything out of the game with the Foxes 3-0 down to the Magpies at the time of writing.

Dazzling with mazy runs and exceptional close control, clips of Monga from academy games regularly go viral, which have led to growing calls from Leicester fans for his inclusion in senior squads.

And it’s not just local hype, either. Reports of elite European clubs monitoring Monga’s progress have been constant.

Manchester City are the side currently accredited with leading the race for the teenage sensation, while Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Chelsea are also all reportedly interested.

As such, many Leicester supporters feared they may never see the day Monga laced up his boots for the first XI. Thankfully, manager Ruud van Nistlerooy alleviated those worries on Monday night.

Coming off the bench in the Foxes’ Premier League clash with Newcastle, Monga has become the third-youngest player in Leicester City’s history.

The starlet is merely days older than Ashley Chambers — whose 2005 debut versus Blackpool came at 15 years and 207 days — while Johnny Grogan holds the club record from way back in 1935, appearing at just 14 years and 194 days old.

Seeing such a talented academy prospect make his senior bow has offered fans a glimmer of excitement in what has been a desperate season for the club, one which now looks almost certain to end in relegation.

Excitement initially arose when Monga was first included in Leicester’s matchday senior squad for their trip to Old Trafford in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Speaking ahead of that game about Monga’s inclusion, Van Nistelrooy said: “The first thing I did [when I arrived] here was look at the Under-21s, at the Under-18s, getting them into first-team training and seeing them.

“When players are good enough the age doesn’t matter to me, and they can help the team.”

Keeping hold of Monga next year could well prove an impossible task for Leicester, but the possibility of more first team minutes and the opportunity to develop in the Championship alongside other academy players like Ben Nelson and Will Alves may appeal to the youngster.

Indeed, how long Leicester can fend off suitors for their burgeoning talent remains to be seen, but with scouts circling from the Bernabeu and beyond, this certainly won’t be the last we hear of him.
