Jaylen Carey is switching sides in an SEC rivalry.
The Vanderbilt big man announced on Sunday evening that he is transferring to Tennessee. He shared the big news on social media, confirming a post from Joe Tipton of On3.

— Jaylen carey (@Jaylencarey1) April 7, 2025Carey is listed as measuring 6-8, 265 pounds. He played for James Madison in 2023-24, following coach Mark Byington to Vanderbilt for his sophomore season. Carey has 2 full seasons of eligibility remaining.
He played in 33 games for the Commodores last season, making only 1 start. Carey averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds per game. His numbers went up to 9.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest against SEC competition.
Carey saw his field-goal shooting percentage drop from 66.9% in 2023-24 to 48.8% in 2024-25, making 105 field goals each season. He nearly doubled his 3-point attempts from 20 to 39, and saw his percentage from beyond the arc drop from 30% to 23.1% on triples.
Carey was particularly productive against Tennessee. He recorded 18 points, his season-high, against the Volunteers on Feb. 15. In the earlier meeting between the in-state rivals on Jan. 18, Carey posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
It will be interesting to see how Carey performs for the Vols when he faces his old team.
