Alex Caruso made an impromptu appearance on the Scott Van Pelt Show on Wednesday night.
Van Pelt was interviewing Thunder star center Chet Holmgren after Oklahoma City’s 119-103 win over the Pistons. Then, at the end of the interview, Van Pelt asked Holmgren to put the headset on Caruso’s head. Van Pelt initially wanted to ask Caruso about how he felt since shaving his head, but the former Texas A&M star turned it back around on Van Pelt, a Maryland super fan.
“We’ve got beef though, you just took our basketball coach,” Caruso said, referring to Buzz Williams’ move from College Station to College Park earlier this week. “I was just about to text you about that.”
Caruso even got in a dig about Van Pelt’s golf game.
“Go work on your swing, I’ll see you this summer,” he added.
Here’s a clip of the interaction:

— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) April 3, 2025Indeed, Texas A&M did lose coach Buzz Williams to SVP’s Terrapins earlier this week. Williams spent 6 seasons at A&M and made the NCAA Tournament 3 times, but the Aggies will be rebuilding with a new coach and a mostly-new roster for next season. Williams will be replacing Kevin Willard in College Park, as Willard left for Villanova earlier this week.
Caruso was a 4-year player for Texas A&M and helped bring the Aggies to the Sweet 16 back in 2016. He was all-SEC that season, mostly for his tremendous work on the defensive end of the floor.
Defense has remained Caruso’s calling card in the NBA. This season, he’s been a key bench piece for an Oklahoma City Thunder team that is 64-12 entering the home stretch of the season.
