Justin Vanpelt pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a string of felony charges in connection with two road rage shootings in 2023.
Justin Winter Vanpelt (Photo courtesy of the Loveland Police Department)Vanpelt, 46, appeared before 8th Judicial District Court Judge Sarah Cure at the Larimer County Justice Center in Fort Collins on Tuesday afternoon for the multiple felonies he faces in relation to the summer 2023 incidents.
Vanpelt is accused of shooting at two separate cars, one in Loveland and another along Interstate 25 near Dacono, as well as fleeing from police in July of 2023. No one was injured, and Vanpelt was later located and arrested in Trinidad.
He faces three counts of attempted first-degree murder with extreme indifference, a class 2 felony; vehicular eluding, a class 5 felony; two counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, a class 5 felony; possession of a weapon as a previous offender, a class 5 felony; as well as three sentence enhancers of violent crime with the use of a weapon. Cure found probable cause in all of the charges against him following a late January preliminary hearing.
A trial will be scheduled at a later date. Cure scheduled Vanpelt to return for a status hearing at 9 a.m. May 27.
He remains in custody at the Larimer County Jail in Fort Collins on a $100,000 cash only bond.
