A spokesperson for Smotrichattributed the resignation to the demand from Otzma Yehudit leader ItamarBen-Gvir for additional ministerial positions upon his return to thegovernment.
While the resignation is largelyprocedural, Smotrich intends to reclaim his ministerial posts once hisparliamentary status is restored.
During this period, the nextcandidate on their party list takes their seat. If the minister later leavesthe Cabinet, they can return to the Knesset, and the substitute member stepsaside.
Despite the shift, Netanyahu’scoalition remains intact. The government successfully passed Israel’s 2025budget in the Knesset last week, ensuring continued political stability fornow.
