— Don Orsillo (@DonOrsillo) March 20, 2025Peavy won a unanimous vote for the Cy Young Award in 2007 after a season in which he won 19 games and posted a, 2.54 ERA with 240 strikeouts.
“I’m incredibly appreciative of this opportunity to reunite with my Padres family,” Peavy said. “San Diego has always held a special place in my heart. I’m a Padre through and through – from the moment I was drafted by the team until this very day, and I can’t wait to work alongside this talented group and contribute in any way I can to the success of this great organization.”
Inducted as the 18th member of the team’s Hall of Fame in 2023, went 92-68 with a 3.29 ERA (491 ER, 1342.2 IP) and 1,348 strikeouts in 212 career starts for the Padres from 2002 through 2009.

He’s also tied for second in wins with Randy Jones.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-hander struck out a career-best 16 batters in a game twice (May 22, 2006 vs Atlanta and April 25, 2007 at Arizona), a club record that still stands.
Peavy was originally selected by the Padres in the 15th round (472nd overall) of the 1999 MLB draft out of St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Ala. After leaving the Padres in 2009, he played for the White Sox, Red Sox and Giants – he won World Series rings with the latter two clubs, in 2013-14.
He retired after the 2016 season. Current Padre Joe Musgrove, a San Diego native, wears No. 44 in Peavy’s honor.
Peavy will continue to work as an analyst on MLB Network.
