A FORMER Army officer travelled 100 miles to slash his wife’s neck before leaving her for dead on a remote country lane, a court heard.

Jurors heard the ex-major slashed his ex-wife in the back, neck, leg and breast and told her she “needed to die”.

Creak, 50, then allegedly drove more than 100 miles back home – leaving stricken Rhiannon on a remote road in Hardwick, Norfolk.

Once back in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, the jury heard he called his current partner and told her he had “killed Rhiannon”.

Police then went to his home where Creak told officers his ex-wife had “tried to destroy me” over issues with a financial settlement.

Norwich Crown Court was told the former couple had been married for a decade but split in 2018.

Both had embarked on new relationships at the time of the horror, it was said.

Jurors heard on July 6 last year, Creak drove more than 100 miles from his Oxfordshire home to confront his ex-wife.

Rhiannon had been on her way to muck out a friend’s horses when she realised she was being followed.

She pulled in on the country lane in a bid to lose the van but Creak parked up in front of her, it was said.

The court heard he then pulled out a folding Stanley knife and “repeatedly slashed at her flesh”.

Prosecutor Claire Mathews said Rhiannon recalled “in graphic detail hearing bubbles in her throat as she struggled to breathe through blood”.

She said that as Creak drove away believing he had killed his ex, a local who heard the commotion noted down the van’s licence plate.

He then went to Rhiannon’s aid and told his wife to call 999.

Rhiannon was forced to undergo a blood transfusion and emergency surgery, with particularly severe injuries to her windpipe and neck.

She also suffered a number of other wounds – including a 20cm slash to her neck and 13cm cut on her chest.

After Creak called his current partner to reveal what he had done, police went to her home.

The court heard he called again but this time a police officer answered.

Creak told them: “I’ve killed my ex-wife.”

He was arrested after officers tracked down his van and claimed he attacked Rhiannon because she “treated with me with contempt”.

Creak later claimed he had not intended to cause her serious injury, it was said.

The former Army officer denies attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm as well as having an article with a blade or point.

The trial continues.
