A Rancho Cucamonga woman has been charged with child endangerment after a 10-year-old boy died from narcotics poisoning.

Officers responded in December to the 9000 block of Arrow Route after a report of an unresponsive 10-year-old boy, who died after officials attempted life-saving measures, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The San Bernardino County Coroner Division investigated and determined in February that the boy, Nathaniel Castro Mendoza, died from fentanyl and xylazine toxicity.

Investigators learned that Christina Alvarez, 32, stored fentanyl in a way that led to the boy’s death.

Alvarez, who was known to the boy’s family, was hit with child endangerment charges. She was arrested Friday, March 14, and is being held on a $100,000 bond.

The Sheriff’s Department asks anyone with information to contact (909) 387-8400 or leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-78-CRIME.
