User Experience
The charger comes in a nondescript cardboard box, which is typical for StarTech products. They go with ‘minimal is better’ type packaging. The top of the box does have a label on it that includes the name of the product — though it differs from the title that is shown on the website. In side the box is the charger a 6—foot USB-C charging cable and a quick start guide. To be honest, you really don’t need the quick start guide because you only need to plug the cable into the charger and then the charger into the wall.
The 140W USB-C charger is smaller than the one that comes with the MacBook Pro, but it is still quite large. The prongs fold up for storage and the cable has a great covering that is thick and keeps the cable well-shielded. There is no indicator light on the charger, which is a little inconvenient but not a deal-breaker to me.
To test the charger, I plugged it into a USB Digital Tester and then checked the charging time for one of my devices. In this case, my iPhone 16 Pro was the test subject. The readings on the tester were 4.95V/0A and 2.06Wh. After 10 minutes the battery on the phone had gained approximately 4%, which wasn’t unusual considering the battery was above 80%. In addition to these traditional testing methods, I also plugged in a 2024 MacBook Pro 14-inch and a 16-inch 2023 MacBook Pro and both worked with it.
