CVS bosses appear to have defended a daily policy – much to the irk of some shoppers.

Furious customers berated the pharmacy giant when their plans were upended.

One shopper, known only as Rose, was left incandescent with rage when she tried to pick up a prescription on her lunch break, according to an X thread.

But, the pharmacy was closed – even though staffers were working behind the scenes.

“Tons of staff working behind a screen,” she said.

“No one would help us waiting even though there are lots of staff.”

She was met with a note saying that the pharmacy was closed between 1:30pm and 2pm.

Rose urged the pharmacy giant to change its course, but her appeal appeared to fall short.

“Rotate lunch breaks,” she demanded.

“This is what every business does.”

A CVS spokesperson responded to the shopper’s demand and explained why the policy is in place.

“Most of our pharmacies will be closed from 1:30pm-2:00pm local time for a lunch break,” they said.

“This break gives our pharmacy teams a predictable and consistent daily pause while minimizing disruption to our patients.”

Rose is not the only shopper that has encountered issues at the pharmacy desk.

PHARMACY SAGAS

The U.S. Sun reported how a mom was left stunned when she was told the pharmacy was closed after pulling up to the drive-thru window.

In an X tirade, she said she was third in line at 4:50pm and was ready to collect the medication for her daughter.

She arrived at the window at 5:01pm but apparently a worker told her that the pharmacy was closed.

“I was the only car left. I am fuming. And it doesn’t open til 11am. Close the line.”

The shopper defended her decision to use the drive-thru.

“I had a sick kid and a preschooler in the car,” she said.

“The drive thru is for convenience.”

CVS has been whittling down its store portfolio over recent years.

In just two years, the company has closed 900 stores in total.

But, the sweeping set of closures have not ended there.

SWEEPING SHUTDOWNS

Bosses have confirmed that 270 outlets across the US are slated to close.

One location that is going to the wall is the pharmacy at Beaumont, Texas.

The store will close on April 10, according to the Beaumont Enterprise.

But, shoppers seem to have been left in the dark.

A note posted on the door did not explain why the store is closing.

CVS is not the only retailer that is in the process of closing stores.

At least 150 Macy’s stores will disappear from the map as part of a three year shutdown plan.

Kohl’s chiefs have confirmed 27 underperforming outlets are to close.

Dollar General bosses are in the process of closing more than 100 stores.

US braces for '45,000 store closures'

Some 45,000 bricks-and-mortar stores could close in the next five years, experts have warned.

Several major retailers have announced store closures or gone out of business altogether in recent years.

In 2023, chains such as Foot Locker announced plans to close up to 400 outlets by 2026.

While, other well-known retailers like Tuesday Morning and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams filed for bankruptcy in 2023.

Bed Bath & Beyond has closed all of its brick-and-mortar stores and is now an online-only retailer.

The most affected retailers have been clothing, consumer electronics, sporting goods, hobby, book, music, and home furnishing stores since the start of 2019.

UBS has predicted the total number of retail stores will drop by 45k from 958k to 913k.

Despite that, the report says that certain stores should thrive while others decline.

It said retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, and Target, could be among the winners.
