“I absolutely love to sing, I love music. But I also love my children,” the mother of two said. She joked, “I have two children. They’re little. One is 27 and the other one is 21.”
“All I had was my voice. So I went to clubs and bars and I asked live bands if I could sing with them,” she related. “They would give me a little money at the end of the night, so I entered vocal competitions. Not this big. It was a local competition, and we won a monetary award. And that gave us our first apartment.”
Now, Charity is at AGT hoping to win an even bigger prize.
“I want to keep singing and collect a Grammy along the way,” she boldly said.
Simon continued, “Charity, what I’ve learned over the years is, if you’ve got talent, I believe anything is possible now. Seriously, I do. We are all honestly rooting for you right now.”
Simon agreed, “I hope so, too.”
Charity began with an a capella version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” but it wasn’t good. Simon cut her off and said, “I stopped you because I like you. But it just wasn’t working for me. Have you got another song? Anything? I really want this to work for you, and this is a lot of pressure. But come on, you’ve got it in you. Let’s hear the other song.”
Mel B was the first judge to stand for Charity. But Simon, Sofia Vergara and Howie quickly followed.
