CORTLAND — William “Bill” Andrew Castle, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother and Christian, peacefully departed Friday, March 14, 2025, at the age of 85.
After graduating from Liberty High School, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Bill retired from Packard Electric as a skilled Tool and Die Maker and an active member of his union, where he represented his coworkers.
Bill’s journey in life was accompanied by his loving wife, Gail, whom he was married to more than 50 years. They enjoyed many friends and traveling, riding his Harley, making their life together, and refurbishing their 200-year-old home. There was nothing Bill could not make or fix. They have all kinds of animals on their property over the years and Bill was especially partial to raising birds from lovebirds to peacocks to turkeys.
Bill was a devoted husband to his wife Gail who became his caregiver for many years so he could remain as independent as possible. He was a proud loving father to Tracy (Keith) Castle Johnson and son, William (Shelby) “Bill” Castle Jr. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Ashley (Jake) Paridon, Andrea (Robert) Castle and Nathan (Allison) Castle. Andrea checked on her grandpa everyday and they were especially close. He was enjoying his grandchildren, Lainey Paridon and Anne Castle. He is also survived by his brother Eugene Castle and sister Patricia Castle.
Bill kept his family connected by arranging family reunions over the years and phone calls during the holidays.
Visitation with family will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025, at St. Roberts Catholic Church, 4659 Ohio 46 in Cortland. A memorial mass will follow at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Southern Care Hospice Service.
